Texas Governor’s New Warning To Democrats
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott delivered a sharp warning Sunday to more than 50 Texas Democrat lawmakers who fled the state in an attempt to block a Republican-backed redistricting plan. The message was clear: come home and face arrest, or remain in hiding for literally years.
Abbott: “I Can Call Special Sessions Forever”
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Abbott reminded viewers that under Texas law, the governor can call a special legislative session every 30 days — indefinitely.
“As soon as this one is over, I’m going to call another one, then another one, then another one,” Abbott said. “If they want to avoid arrest, they’ll have to stay outside of Texas for literally years.”
The governor explained that once the absent Democrats set foot back in Texas, law enforcement has the authority to escort them directly to the Capitol to fulfill their duties.
Abbott: Democrats Have Abandoned Their Constitutional Oath
Abbott accused the runaway lawmakers of violating Article 3 of the Texas Constitution, which requires them to act on bills. He argued that their refusal to show up is a clear breach of their oath of office — potentially justifying legal action to remove them from their seats entirely.
Hiding in Blue States with Democrat Governors’ Protection
Most of the Democrat lawmakers are reportedly hiding in Illinois and New York, enjoying political cover from Democrat governors JB Pritzker and Kathy Hochul. Last week, they stood with Illinois Democrats to condemn the Trump-backed redistricting plan — while avoiding their legislative responsibilities in Austin.
Abbott Threatens to Expand GOP Seats if Boycott Continues
On the Ruthless Podcast, Abbott hinted that the Democrats’ stunt could backfire spectacularly.
“If they don’t start showing up, I may start expanding,” Abbott said. “We may make it six, seven, or eight new seats on the Republican side.”
Conservatives Applaud Abbott’s No-Nonsense Leadership
Abbott’s tough stance is earning high praise from conservatives across Texas and the nation. Many see the Democrats’ walkout as nothing more than political theater, wasting taxpayer dollars and undermining Texas voters.
With Abbott holding all the legal cards — and signaling he’s ready for a long fight — the Texas redistricting showdown could reshape the state’s political map for decades.
