Trump ICE Arrests University Students?

A Quiet Arrest Sparks National Attention

In a dramatic move that’s catching headlines nationwide, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested an international graduate student at the University of Minnesota earlier this week. The arrest took place Thursday at an off-campus residence near the university’s Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis.

According to a public statement by University President Rebecca Cunningham, the student’s detention was unexpected. “We had no prior knowledge of this incident,” Cunningham said in a joint update with Vice Presidents Calvin Phillips and Mercedes Ramírez Fernández.

University Scrambles After ICE Move

Officials say the university is now trying to gather more details, while also connecting the student to legal and international student support services. The student was part of the Carlson School of Management, a program known for attracting international enrollees.

But the quiet arrest is part of something much bigger—a national campaign to restore law and order on American campuses.

Trump Administration Targets Radical Foreign Activists

Since President Donald J. Trump returned to office, his administration has zeroed in on foreign students and faculty who’ve participated in anti-American protests, especially those promoting extremist pro-Palestinian ideologies.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed on Thursday that over 300 foreign nationals have already had their visas revoked.

“Every time we find one of these lunatics, we take away their visa,” Rubio said. “If you’re in our country on a visa, and you’re preaching hate or disrupting our values—you’re out.”

That includes students on green cards and temporary visas who have been active in radical campus demonstrations. ICE has confirmed that it is investigating multiple institutions across the country.

Multiple Foreign Students Detained in Ongoing Crackdown

In addition to the arrest in Minnesota, ICE agents also detained:

  • Alireza Doroudi, an Iranian doctoral student at the University of Alabama
  • Rumeysa Ozturk, a Turkish student studying at Tufts University

Both were taken into custody earlier this week, according to immigration officials.

Conservative Voters Applaud Tougher Enforcement

For many Americans—especially older, law-abiding taxpayers—this aggressive policy shift is welcome news. Universities have too often allowed radical ideologies to fester under the guise of “diversity” and “academic freedom.”

Now, the Trump administration is sending a clear signal:
Foreign nationals who abuse their student visas to promote anti-American causes will face consequences.
