Trump Team Says Farms At Risk?
Washington, D.C. – Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins sounded the alarm Tuesday, admitting the American farm economy is “not in a good place” as farmers lose billions from collapsing trade with China and other nations.
Speaking on Fox Business’s Making Money with Charles Payne, Rollins made clear that President Trump is stepping in to defend rural America.
“The president has committed to supporting our farmers, and we’ll have an announcement on that very soon, likely next week,” Rollins declared.
She added that although times are tough, the “Golden Age” for U.S. agriculture is “just around the corner.”
China Turns Away From American Farmers
Rollins highlighted the impact of China’s trade retaliation, noting that through July, Beijing bought 51% fewer American soybeans than last year. For farm states, that’s devastating news.
Meanwhile, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) blasted Washington’s recent decision to provide financial support for Argentina, even as China increases soybean purchases from South America.
Grassley took to X (formerly Twitter) to call the move a betrayal:
“Farmers are VERY upset. China is buying soybeans from Argentina while American producers are punished with tariffs. We need a trade deal NOW.”
Trump Administration Moves Toward a Farmers’ Aid Package
To counteract the losses, Rollins confirmed the White House is developing a farm relief package. President Trump has suggested using tariff revenue to directly support farmers — a move many Republicans say is long overdue.
Grassley insisted that family farmers must be “top of mind” in every negotiation with foreign powers, demanding that America use “leverage at every turn” to put U.S. producers first.
GOP Leaders: Farmers Facing Harvest With No Buyers
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) warned that farmers are preparing for record corn and soybean harvests with “no place to go with it.”
“At the end of the day, our farmers are going to need financial assistance this year,” Thune said on NBC’s Meet the Press. He stressed that tariff revenue should be redirected into relief for hardworking rural communities.
Trump’s Commitment to Rural America
For decades, American farmers have fed the world. Today, they face foreign tariffs, unfair trade deals, and global competitors undermining U.S. markets. President Trump’s promise is simple: stand with America’s farmers and fight for fair trade.
The coming relief package could provide a lifeline to rural families who form the backbone of the nation’s economy.
