Trump Gets More Republican Support

President Donald Trump’s landmark legislation is already making waves on Capitol Hill—and according to Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), it’s just what America needs to tame inflation, grow the economy, and bring the national debt under control.

“I believe this bill will actually help shrink the debt by boosting economic growth,” Marshall said during a Sunday appearance on The Hill Sunday with NewsNation’s Chris Stirewalt. “We’ve seen it before—with President Kennedy, President Reagan, President Clinton, and President Trump. Pro-growth policies can supercharge the economy and reduce deficits.”

This legislation—dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act—is President Trump’s signature economic and national security package. The plan includes major tax cuts, increased defense spending, tougher border security, energy independence reforms, and targeted reductions in entitlement growth. It’s designed to protect America’s future and put the country back on a path of prosperity—just like Trump did during his first term.

Phase One of Trump’s Comeback Agenda

“This is just phase one,” Marshall emphasized. “It’s not the end-all. We still have a lot of work to do to get spending under control, restore border integrity, and grow the economy the right way—by empowering American workers and small businesses.”

Despite strong support from Senate Republicans, two GOP senators voted against advancing the package: Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC).

Tillis Balks, Trump Fires Back

Sen. Tillis opposed the bill over a projected $38.9 billion reduction in Medicaid funding for North Carolina—a state that has seen skyrocketing healthcare costs under Biden-era policies.

“I cannot support this bill in its current form. It would result in tens of billions in lost federal funds for North Carolina’s hospitals and rural areas,” Tillis said.

President Trump quickly fired back on Truth Social Saturday night, expressing openness to backing a primary challenger to Sen. Thom Tillis. He noted that several individuals have already expressed interest in running and said he plans to meet with them soon to find a candidate who truly represents the people of North Carolina—and the nation as a whole.

By Sunday, Tillis announced he will not seek re-election in 2026—signaling the growing strength of Trump’s America First movement within the Republican Party.

A Bold Step Toward Fiscal Sanity

With the nation’s debt ballooning under years of reckless spending, Trump’s bill is being hailed by conservatives as a necessary course correction.

“This bill is about restoring American greatness—financially, militarily, and morally,” Marshall said. “It sends a powerful message: America is done being weak. We’re getting back to what works—lower taxes, tighter borders, stronger families, and a booming economy.”
