Republican Thanks Trump For Pardon

Former Rep. George Santos is crediting President Donald Trump with giving him “a second chance at life” after the president commuted his federal prison sentence, a move that Santos described as both humbling and life-changing.

The former New York congressman, who had been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for wire fraud and identity theft, was released Friday night from the Federal Correctional Institution in Fairton, New Jersey. He had served just under three months before President Trump stepped in with executive clemency.

Santos: “It Still Feels Surreal”

Appearing Monday on Newsmax’s “Greg Kelly Reports,” Santos shared his emotional reaction to the president’s decision.

“It’s surreal. I wake up at 3 a.m. every night, the same time they used to do bed checks in prison,” Santos said. “Then I realize — I’m home. It’s a miracle.”

Santos said that adjusting to freedom after months behind bars has been difficult, but he remains grateful to God — and to President Trump — for giving him a second chance.

“It’s been humbling. God above all,” Santos said. “I’ve learned more about faith and forgiveness in these last few months than ever before.”

Praise for President Trump’s Compassion

Santos said his conversation with President Trump on Saturday left him nearly speechless.

“President Trump’s mercy and his willingness to give people like me and so many others a second chance is something rare in politics,” he said. “When I spoke with him, I just thanked him for his kindness and his humanity. He is not what the mainstream media says — he’s a good man with a big heart.”

Santos accused the liberal media of relentlessly distorting the president’s image while ignoring his acts of compassion.

“The media twists everything he does,” Santos said. “If they saw what I saw — a man of forgiveness and leadership — they’d have to admit how wrong they’ve been.”

A Story of Redemption

The former lawmaker said he now wants to use his story as a message of faith, redemption, and rebuilding.

“President Trump believes in redemption,” Santos said. “He believes America is a place where people can rebuild and start again. That’s leadership.”

Santos added that he plans to focus on faith, family, and gratitude as he moves forward.

“This is a new chapter for me,” he said. “I thank God every day — and I thank President Trump for making it possible.”

Why It Matters

President Trump’s decision to commute Santos’s sentence underscores his long-held belief in fairness, forgiveness, and second chances — a sharp contrast to how Democrats and the corporate media often portray him.

For many conservatives, the move symbolizes Trump’s deep sense of justice and his willingness to stand up for individuals who have been, in his words, “treated unfairly.”
