Trump Erupts On His Top Ally
President Donald Trump is calling out Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), once considered a close ally, for what he sees as a betrayal—voting alongside Democrats to advance a controversial bill that could ultimately be used to target Trump himself.
The legislation, passed out of committee by a narrow 8-7 vote, would ban stock trading by members of Congress and their spouses. But what raised eyebrows is the bill’s expansion—thanks to Hawley and Democrat Senator Gary Peters (D-MI)—to include the sitting president and vice president. However, the new rules would apply only to future administrations.
Trump, taking to Truth Social, slammed Hawley as the only Republican on the panel to vote with the Democrats. The former president accused Hawley of playing into the left’s hands and aiding their long-running campaign to undermine his leadership.
“Why would a so-called Republican—Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri—side with every Democrat to stop a review of Nancy Pelosi’s stock trading activity spanning the last 25 years?” Trump wrote. “The timing of the document release, just minutes before the vote, reeks of sabotage!”
Earlier in the day, Trump had cautiously supported the concept of a stock trading ban but pivoted once he saw the final version of the bill. Instead of focusing on transparency in Congress, Trump believes the legislation has become a weapon designed to go after America First leadership.
“I like the idea conceptually,” Trump said, “but why is no one investigating Nancy Pelosi? Her returns are among the highest in history—how is that possible without insider information?”
Pelosi’s husband has been a focal point of Republican criticism for years due to well-timed trades. While there has been no formal legal finding of wrongdoing, Pelosi herself voiced support for the bill after the committee vote—a move that only deepened suspicions among conservatives.
Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) had reportedly urged Hawley to collaborate on improving the legislation before the vote. Instead, Hawley joined forces with Democrats, stripped Pelosi’s name from the bill’s title, and helped move it forward—with language that could one day impact Trump.
Trump wasn’t holding back.
“The Democrats have been targeting me for years,” he wrote. “Now they’re using Josh Hawley—someone I helped elect twice—as their pawn. Why would he push a bill Pelosi loves? It’s a win for her and her husband, but a disaster for the country.”
Trump concluded with a direct shot at the Missouri Senator: “Real Republicans don’t want to see their president—who delivered unmatched results—targeted by the whims of a second-tier senator like Josh Hawley.”
