Trump’s ICE Gets More GOP Support
Texas Rep. Chip Roy said Wednesday that critics of Immigration and Customs Enforcement are ignoring critical facts and dismissing the agency’s public safety mission following new revelations in the Minneapolis case involving the death of Renee Good.
Speaking on Rob Schmitt Tonight on Newsmax, Roy pointed to reports confirming that the ICE officer involved in the incident suffered internal bleeding after being struck by the vehicle Good was driving. According to Roy, the updated details reinforce what video evidence had already suggested.
“This is not complicated,” Roy said. “The officer was clearly hit.”
Roy Says ICE Opponents Ignore Risks Faced by Officers
Roy expressed frustration that confirmation of the officer’s injuries was even necessary, arguing that critics of Immigration and Customs Enforcement have focused narrowly on the shooting itself while minimizing the dangers routinely faced by federal law enforcement officers.
“What’s disturbing is that facts don’t seem to matter,” Roy said. “There’s very little concern for the American lives that are protected because ICE is doing its job.”
The congressman pointed to multiple high-profile cases involving violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants, including the deaths of Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, and Rachel Morin, saying those tragedies underscore the stakes of immigration enforcement.
ICE Operations Remove Dangerous Criminals, Roy Says
Roy also highlighted ICE enforcement actions in Minnesota, stating that agents have removed gang members, violent offenders, and repeat criminals from local communities. He said those removals rarely receive attention from media outlets critical of border enforcement.
Instead, Roy said opponents have centered their outrage on a single confrontation in which he argues the driver used a vehicle as a weapon against a federal officer.
“She didn’t have to press the accelerator,” Roy said. “Anyone looking at this honestly can see that.”
Lawmaker Cites Rising Attacks on ICE Agents
Roy further referenced other recent assaults on ICE personnel, including an incident where an agent was attacked with a metal coffee mug during an arrest. He described ICE agents as legitimate law enforcement professionals who routinely place themselves in dangerous situations to protect the public.
“These are real officers,” Roy said. “They put their lives on the line every day.”
“I stand with ICE,” he added. “I’ll stand with them all day long.”
Roy Credits Trump Administration for Border Crackdown
The Texas lawmaker credited the Trump administration with sharply reducing illegal immigration, pointing to recent estimates showing net migration turned negative in 2025 for the first time in decades.
Roy praised President Donald Trump, along with senior officials including White House adviser Stephen Miller, border czar Tom Homan, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, crediting ICE and Border Patrol for tightening enforcement and accelerating removals.
Roy said immigration enforcement is not only about crime or fentanyl trafficking, but also about national sovereignty, assimilation, and preserving the rule of law. He argued that after years of lax border control, the administration is restoring order.
He concluded by calling on Congress to back the president by codifying border policies into law and advancing legislation he has introduced to pause immigration and confront groups he claims are undermining American values.
