GOP Senator Announces Governor Run

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), a proud ally of President Donald Trump and champion of conservative values, has officially entered the 2026 Alabama governor’s race. His campaign launch includes a new website and a renewed call to defend faith, freedom, and fiscal sanity in the Heart of Dixie.

Tuberville made the announcement during an exclusive interview on Fox News, confirming that he will return to Alabama to build on the America First legacy.

“I’m running to become the next governor of Alabama,” Tuberville told host Will Cain. “We’ve still got 18 months left to work with President Trump and finish the job of Making America Great Again — but I’m also looking ahead to how I can best serve Alabama in this critical time.”

Returning Leadership to Alabama with Trump’s Support

A former football coach turned senator, Tuberville emphasized his lifelong commitment to leadership, teamwork, and results.

“I’m a coach, a recruiter, a builder,” he said. “We’re going to grow Alabama with common-sense policies and conservative solutions — not Washington red tape.”

Tuberville said he’ll remain active in the Senate during Trump’s second term, but will campaign on weekends to meet with voters and earn their support for governor.

Why Tuberville Believes the Time Is Now

Speaking to The Hill, Tuberville explained his reasoning behind leaving the U.S. Senate: restoring conservative governance at the state level.

“President Trump is putting power back where it belongs — in the hands of the states,” he said. “Being governor gives you the tools to take that opportunity and use it to truly protect your people from federal overreach.”

A Record of Standing Tall Against Biden’s Radical Agenda

Tuberville became a conservative favorite for his bold, ten-month hold on military promotions in protest of the Pentagon’s controversial abortion travel reimbursement policy — a move sparked after the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

“Four years of Joe Biden almost sent this country to the homeless shelter,” Tuberville said. “We watched the economy collapse, the border go wide open, and our military weakened by woke policies.”

His no-nonsense stance against federal mandates and abortion-related spending drew national praise from constitutional conservatives.

First to Stand with Trump — Then and Now

From day one, Tuberville has been one of President Trump’s most loyal defenders. He was the first U.S. Senator to endorse Trump’s 2024 campaign and the first to appear in person at the New York courtroom during Trump’s politically charged trial — a bold display of loyalty that inspired others.

In 2020, Tuberville won his Senate seat by defeating former Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the primary and Democrat Doug Jones in the general election. Although he considered a second term, he concluded that leading Alabama as governor would offer a more direct way to safeguard conservative values.

“It’s not about the title — it’s about where I can be the most useful,” Tuberville said. “Being governor means focusing on protecting Alabama, not playing defense in D.C.”

Strong Support Already Building

The influential Club for Growth PAC has endorsed Tuberville’s bid, highlighting his commitment to school choice, tax cuts, and fiscal responsibility.

“Coach Tuberville is a proven fighter for conservative values,” said Club for Growth President David McIntosh. “He’ll bring strong, principled leadership to Montgomery.”

Tuberville would replace current Gov. Kay Ivey, a Republican who is term-limited and will leave office in 2026 after nearly a decade of service.

A New Era of Conservative Strength for Alabama

Tuberville’s entrance into the governor’s race is expected to reshape Alabama politics and ignite a competitive GOP primary to fill his Senate seat. Potential candidates include Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth, Attorney General Steve Marshall, Rep. Barry Moore, and others.

But as Tuberville sees it, this campaign is not about personal ambition — it’s about saving Alabama from the consequences of failed federal leadership.

“We need governors who will stand with Trump, not cave to Washington,” he said. “This is about protecting our families, our faith, and our freedoms — right here at home.”
