Obama Turns Down Hollywood Role

Ben Stiller recently shared an amusing anecdote about former President Barack Obama’s response to a request he made. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, Stiller, who is both an executive producer and director of the popular Apple TV+ show Severance, explained that he had tried to involve Obama in the show. Stiller wanted Obama to narrate an animated video featured in the series, which is shown to employees at the enigmatic biotech company Lumon Industries, a key part of the show’s dystopian plot.

To make the request, Stiller reached out through a mutual connection who knew Obama’s lawyer. After writing to the former president, Stiller was surprised when, just two days later, he received a response. In his message, Obama expressed that he was a big fan of the show and had enjoyed the first season, eagerly anticipating the second one. However, Obama politely declined the offer, explaining that his schedule didn’t allow for the additional commitment.

While Stiller joked about how it seemed like a minor role, considering it was simply a voiceover for an animated building in Severance, he appreciated that Obama took the time to respond personally. Ultimately, the uncredited voice role went to actor Keanu Reeves, famous for his roles in John Wick and other blockbuster films.

Though Obama couldn’t participate, his positive feedback speaks volumes about Severance’s impact and appeal. It’s a sign that good, well-crafted entertainment can cross political divides, reaching all types of viewers—including high-profile figures like Obama. This only further solidifies Severance as a standout show that resonates with a diverse audience.
