GOP Thanks Democrats

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer is firing back at Democrats after what he called a “completely unnecessary and politically driven” government shutdown, saying several Senate Democrats “finally came to their senses” after weeks of chaos and waste.

Speaking to Newsmax on Monday, the Kentucky Republican placed full blame on Democrat leadership for the budget deadlock that paralyzed Washington for 41 days, calling it “100% a Democrat shutdown.”

“In their never-ending quest to embarrass or hurt President Donald Trump, Democrats ended up hurting the American people,” Comer said. “They set America back 41 days for no reason.”

Democrat Shutdown Leaves Taxpayers Holding the Bag

Comer blasted the financial fallout from the shutdown, pointing out that the billions in lost productivity, missed paychecks, and back pay for furloughed federal workers will fall squarely on taxpayers.

“The amount of money that was wasted is staggering,” Comer warned. “Now, taxpayers have to foot the bill for workers who weren’t even on the job. The SNAP crisis they created was totally avoidable. This was a self-inflicted wound by the Democrats.”

He added that the shutdown “hurt veterans, small business owners, and families already struggling with inflation and high energy prices.”

Eight Democrats Break Ranks as Pressure Mounts

Comer praised the eight Senate Democrats who broke with party leadership to support a bipartisan resolution reopening the government through January.

Their decision, he said, was key to ending a “politically motivated stunt” that had backfired on the left.

“Good for those eight Democrats who finally came to their senses,” Comer said. “They realized this wasn’t helping anyone—it was only making life harder for working Americans.”

The breakthrough measure combines multiple spending bills with a short-term funding extension that will keep the government open while long-term negotiations continue.

Republicans Ready to Move Quickly

Comer confirmed that the House is standing by to act once the Senate finalizes the measure.

“Once the Senate passes their bill, we’ll have 36 hours to review it and get everyone back to Washington,” Comer said. “Hopefully, this will all be over by the end of the week.”

Still, Comer warned Democrats not to repeat their mistake and urged them to put America first instead of playing political games.

“This shutdown was about politics, not people,” Comer concluded. “Hopefully, Democrats learned their lesson and won’t try this again.”

Bottom Line

With the shutdown’s end in sight, Comer’s message is clear: stop the political theater, stop hurting Americans, and start working for the country.

Republicans say the American people deserve leadership that focuses on results — not revenge against President Trump.
