Republican Calls Out Crooked Democrats
Texas state Rep. Hillary Hickland (R-Belton) blasted Democrats on Newsmax this weekend, accusing them of abandoning justice and instead “working overtime to obstruct the will of the people.”
Earlier this month, dozens of Texas Democrats fled the state in an organized walkout designed to stop the Republican-led Legislature from redrawing congressional election maps backed by President Donald Trump. By leaving, they blocked a quorum and stalled the GOP’s agenda.
Hickland, who serves on the powerful redistricting committee, said Democrats made their true motives clear during hearings.
“We had members of Congress, Democrats, openly admit they wanted to impeach President Trump, defy his agenda, and obstruct Republicans at every turn,” Hickland told Saturday Agenda.
She added that Texas families are fed up with Democrats’ political theater:
“This isn’t about justice. It’s about obstruction. Texans are tired of it. We’re ready to get real work done that hardworking Americans can actually see in their daily lives.”
Republicans Say Democrats Will Be Forced Back
Despite Democrat gamesmanship, Hickland stressed that Republicans are not backing down.
“We’re going to keep showing up. We’re going to pass these maps. It’s inevitable,” she said.
Texas Republicans have already cut Democrat lawmakers’ budgets and issued fines for their absence — penalties that have now cost them thousands of dollars. Every day, those fines increase.
Second Special Session Called by Gov. Abbott
On Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott launched a second special session after the first was derailed by Democrats’ nearly two-week walkout. The new session is focused on approving congressional maps aligned with Trump’s America First vision for Texas.
Democrats claim they will return only after California Democrats finalize their own redistricting plans — proof, Republicans argue, that liberals are taking cues from out-of-state party bosses instead of listening to Texans.
For conservatives, the fight in Austin highlights a growing pattern: Democrats refusing to govern, choosing obstruction over solutions, and targeting Trump’s agenda at every turn.
