Key Reason for the Expanded Ban:
Several of the nations identified either lack functional central governments capable of issuing reliable identification documents or are plagued by rampant fraud and corruption. Others have high numbers of nationals who overstay visas in the United States, creating long-term security risks.
The State Department has given the countries until Wednesday at 8 a.m. EDT to submit an initial compliance plan outlining how they will meet the newly established benchmarks.
