Internet Personality Trolls Trump-Hater Colbert
Outspoken Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy unleashed a scathing rebuke of left-wing late-night host Stephen Colbert after The Late Show was abruptly canceled by CBS—citing massive financial losses that have embarrassed the network and raised fresh questions about liberal media bias.
“You’re losing $40 million a year and you’re shocked they canceled you? Welcome to the real world,” Portnoy declared in a viral video posted to X.
CBS recently pulled the plug on Colbert’s show in what it called a “financial decision,” although insiders say the cancellation came shortly after the network agreed to a $16 million defamation settlement with President Donald Trump—a move Colbert smugly referred to as a “big fat bribe.”
Now, with CBS’s parent company, Paramount, seeking regulatory approval for a major merger under President Trump’s Federal Communications Commission, some liberal commentators are crying foul. But Portnoy isn’t buying the victim narrative.
“This isn’t politics—it’s simple economics,” Portnoy said. “You can’t lose tens of millions and then bash your own employer on national TV. What did you think was going to happen?”
Colbert, a longtime critic of President Trump and conservative America, had previously ridiculed both CBS and Paramount for settling with Trump—calling it a “nuisance lawsuit.” But in the real world, Portnoy argued, you don’t get to insult your boss while tanking their bottom line.
“I’d fire you in a heartbeat. That’s not politics. That’s called being ungrateful. That’s capitalism.”
Colbert’s Downfall: A Symbol of Liberal Media Decline?
According to The New York Times, The Late Show was hemorrhaging money, with losses estimated in the tens of millions annually. In today’s media climate—where trust in mainstream networks is at an all-time low and cable news is struggling—CBS likely had no choice.
For many viewers, the downfall of Stephen Colbert is less about television and more about the collapse of liberal entertainment’s grip on American culture. And for those who value free speech, common sense, and fiscal responsibility, Portnoy’s blunt reaction hits home.
