Liberals are losing their minds over this.
Washington, D.C. — Just over 100 days into his return to the White House, President Donald Trump has sparked global conversation again—this time with a viral image that blends humor, faith, and bold political messaging.
On Friday, President Trump posted a digitally generated image of himself dressed as the pope on Truth Social. The timing was no accident. Just days prior, he traveled to Rome to personally attend the funeral of the late Pope Francis—a solemn moment for Catholics worldwide.
Now, with the Vatican preparing for the upcoming conclave to choose the next leader of the Catholic Church, Trump’s meme is being interpreted by many as a symbolic message—and not everyone is laughing.
Trump’s Supporters Say the Meme Is Just “Classic Trump”
Townhall columnist Dustan Grage defended the president, pointing out that most of the backlash came from atheists and progressive voices with no respect for faith or tradition.
“Memes showing Trump as Christ get attacked as ‘blasphemous,’ but this one is just funny,” Grage said. “The left is offended by everything. Calm down, folks.”
Left-Wing Outrage and Media Backlash
Progressive activist Harry Sisson called the post “childish,” and legacy media quickly jumped to label the meme as offensive and disrespectful.
Even the New York State Catholic Conference issued a statement condemning the post, saying, “We just buried our beloved Pope Francis. There is nothing funny about mocking this sacred moment.”
Trump Administration: The President Has Shown Deep Respect
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded swiftly, defending Trump’s trip to Rome and his consistent advocacy for religious liberty.
“President Trump flew to Italy to pay his respects to Pope Francis,” she said. “He’s always stood up for religious freedom, the Catholic Church, and the values of faith-loving Americans.”
When asked who he’d like to see as the next pope, Trump chuckled, “I’d like to be pope—that’d be my number one choice,” before naming Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York as a worthy candidate.

The Conclave Begins: Faithful Eyes Turn to Rome
On May 7, Catholic cardinals from across the globe will meet in solemn prayer to select the next pope. Unlike political elections, the process is spiritual—guided by tradition and the Holy Spirit.
Top contenders include:
- Cardinal Pietro Parolin – Vatican Secretary of State
- Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle – Known for outreach to the developing world
- Cardinal Raymond Burke – A favorite among American conservatives
- Cardinal Timothy Dolan – A bold and faithful voice from New York
Trump, raised Presbyterian and now a self-described nondenominational Christian, continues to show strong support for Christian voters across the U.S.
Whether viewed as satire or symbolism, the viral meme once again shows that Donald Trump is not only shaping politics—he’s defining the cultural conversation.
There will never ever be an American Pope. The Vatican is set in its ways, so anyone thinking there will be an American as the pope, forget about it.
