Rising Democrat Star Calls Out Billionaires
In a jaw-dropping moment on NBC’s Meet the Press, New York City mayoral candidate and self-proclaimed socialist Zohran Mamdani openly declared that billionaires should not exist—even as he positions himself to lead America’s financial capital.
“There shouldn’t be billionaires,” Mamdani stated firmly. “Having that kind of extreme wealth during a time of widespread inequality is simply unjust.”
Mamdani, who calls himself a “democratic socialist,” claimed New York needs more “equality,” not wealth creation. Yet, in a bizarre twist, he added:
“I look forward to working with everyone, including billionaires, to make a city that is fairer for all.”
This anti-wealth rhetoric has sparked outrage among working Americans and job creators alike.
Despite his radical views, Mamdani is surging in the polls, even threatening to defeat former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary. If elected, Mamdani would become the city’s first Muslim and Asian mayor, a fact he celebrated with a post on X (formerly Twitter):
“As Nelson Mandela once said, things often feel impossible—until they’re accomplished. Well, my friends, we’ve accomplished it.”
But critics argue Mamdani’s policies mirror the dangerous experiments of failed socialist regimes. With inflation on the rise and crime gripping the streets, many believe New York cannot afford more far-left leadership.
“One in four New Yorkers are living in poverty, and the rest are trapped in a state of anxiety,” Mamdani said—without acknowledging how progressive policies may have contributed to that very crisis.
He added:
“This city needs to be affordable for the people who build it every day.”
Conservatives warn that attacking wealth and punishing success won’t solve New York’s problems—it will only drive jobs, businesses, and investment away.
