GOP Calls For FBI Help

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) has put runaway Texas Democrats on notice. He’s now open to involving the FBI to bring them back and end their attempt to derail Republican-led redistricting efforts.

“I support using every possible tool to hold these lawless Democrats accountable—including federal authorities like the FBI,” Paxton told The Hill.

This comes after a fiery appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room, where Paxton initially dismissed the FBI’s role, saying the fight was “a Texas issue.” Now, with pressure mounting, Paxton is ready to escalate.

Runaway Democrats Accused of Abandoning Texans

Dozens of Texas House Democrats fled the state, blocking GOP votes on new congressional maps. Their goal? To stall conservative reforms. But Republicans say this is pure obstruction.

Paxton is prepared to act. “If lawmakers don’t return, we will seek court orders and take steps to remove them from office,” Paxton warned. “Texans elected them to work—not to hide in hotels.”

Governor Greg Abbott has already filed an emergency petition to the Texas Supreme Court targeting House Democratic leader Gene Eu. “This is about law and order,” Abbott said.

Cornyn, FBI, and Trump Back Paxton’s Push

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) urged FBI Director Kash Patel to step in. Cornyn says Democrats who accepted donations to avoid their duties might face bribery and public corruption charges.

President Trump quickly backed the idea: “The FBI may have to get involved. Texans deserve lawmakers who do their job.”

Arrests on the Table

Paxton has hinted that Texas Rangers could be called to arrest the rogue Democrats. When pressed by Bannon on whether Rangers could cross state lines, Paxton said:
“Give me a couple of days, and I’ll tell you exactly what that means. We’re preparing every option.”

Paxton vs. Cornyn: GOP Power Struggle

This showdown is also fueling the 2026 GOP primary battle. Paxton is running to Cornyn’s right and leading in recent polls. Cornyn’s campaign has lashed out, calling Paxton’s earlier comments “undermining Trump’s effort.”

Paxton fired back: “While I’m working to solve problems, Cornyn’s team is making desperate posts on X. Texans see through this.”

The Bottom Line

Texans—especially older conservatives—are fed up with political stunts. As Paxton put it: “If you don’t show up to work, you get fired.”

With Trump, Abbott, and grassroots voters behind him, Paxton is ready to deliver a clear message: Texas will not be held hostage by runaway Democrats.
