Americans Flip On Trump’s Ballroom?

A new Yahoo/YouGov poll claims that nearly two-thirds of Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump’s plan to build a grand White House ballroom, a project his supporters say will restore dignity and tradition to America’s most iconic home.

According to the poll, 61% of respondents said they oppose the idea, while 25% backed the plan, and 11% were unsure. Despite the criticism, the Trump administration says the project is part of a long-overdue effort to revitalize the White House after decades of neglect.

The plan involves replacing the East Wing, which was recently demolished to make room for the new structure. The East Wing previously housed the First Lady’s office, the White House theater, and the presidential bunker. Crews were seen completing demolition work last week — the first step toward what supporters call a “timeless addition” to the nation’s most recognized building.

While Democrats and the mainstream media have condemned the move as “unnecessary,” Republican leaders are defending the renovation, pointing out that the White House has been expanded and remodeled many times throughout history.

“Every time President Trump takes bold action, Democrats instinctively say no,” said House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.). “Let’s not forget — the Oval Office itself was created through a renovation. Without bold presidents, it wouldn’t even exist.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) also backed the president, saying Trump’s project reflects a commitment to American pride and tradition, not vanity. “He’s not tearing history down,” Johnson said. “He’s reviving the people’s house.”

Supporters say the new ballroom will serve as a national gathering space for historic events, state dinners, and ceremonies that celebrate American culture, service, and unity — something Washington hasn’t seen in decades.

The Yahoo/YouGov poll surveyed 1,770 adults between October 23 and 27, with a margin of error of ±3.1%.

Despite the poll’s findings, conservatives see the backlash as more proof of the Left’s reflexive opposition to anything associated with Trump — even projects that celebrate American craftsmanship and pride.

As one Trump supporter put it online, “When he builds something beautiful, they call it arrogance. When he restores history, they call it destruction. But to millions of Americans, it’s leadership.”
