Stephen A. Smith Trolls Democrat Governor

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sports commentator and cultural critic Stephen A. Smith is calling out Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer after her controversial appearance at the White House with President Donald Trump. In a fiery segment on ABC’s This Week, Smith made it clear: when you’re a governor, you don’t get to play political games—you work with the President.

“Let’s get real,” Smith said. “She’s the governor of Michigan. That’s not optional. She has to deal with President Trump whether she likes it or not.”

Photos of Whitmer awkwardly covering her face with a folder during Trump’s press event quickly went viral. Critics blasted the Democrat governor for appearing ashamed or evasive during a moment of national importance.

Whitmer later claimed she was unexpectedly brought into the room for the signing of a Trump executive order, just before a closed-door meeting. That meeting reportedly focused on the President’s America First tariff strategy and possible upgrades to Michigan’s Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

Smith didn’t hold back. He criticized Democrats for ignoring Trump’s tariff agenda—something he has spoken about repeatedly on the campaign trail.

“They’re too busy pushing woke culture, cancel culture, and radical social issues,” Smith said. “Meanwhile, Trump is talking jobs, the economy, manufacturing, and national security. That’s what real leadership looks like.”

Smith’s name has even been floated as a future presidential candidate—a sign of how disconnected the Democratic Party has become from everyday Americans.

“If a sports analyst like me is showing up in the polls, maybe it’s time Democrats ask themselves: what are we really offering the American people?” he said.
