Trump Tears Into Democrat

President Donald Trump on Saturday sharply criticized Democratic Senate candidate Roy Cooper while formally endorsing Republican Michael Whatley during a campaign event in North Carolina, setting the tone for what is expected to be a closely watched race.

Addressing supporters, Trump described Cooper as a “radical left” politician and contrasted him with Whatley, whom he praised as a dependable conservative leader. Trump referred to Whatley as a “tough and strong” figure who has played a central role in Republican efforts across the state.

Trump credited Whatley with standing firm during past election disputes in North Carolina, calling him a reliable ally who refused to back down under political pressure. He described Whatley as a committed defender of election integrity and conservative values.

The president also highlighted Whatley’s work with Lara Trump at the Republican National Committee, calling their partnership one of the most effective leadership teams the party has seen. Trump recalled comments from Whatley praising Lara Trump’s leadership and political guidance.

Turning to Cooper’s record, Trump criticized the former governor’s approach to crime and public safety, arguing that Democratic leadership has failed to protect communities. He also pointed to what he described as a slow and inadequate recovery effort in western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene.

Trump urged voters to support Whatley, framing the contest as part of a broader national debate over public safety, border security, and economic stability. He criticized Democratic policies on crime and immigration, issues that continue to rank high among voter concerns.

The president reiterated his opposition to open-border policies and expressed concerns over biological males competing in women’s sports, positions that drew agreement from Whatley during the event.

When invited to speak, Whatley thanked Trump for the endorsement and reflected on his long support for Trump dating back to 2015. He credited Trump’s leadership on economic growth, border enforcement, and restoring American influence overseas.

Whatley described Trump as one of the most consequential presidents in modern history and pointed to Republican victories in 2016, 2020, and 2024 as evidence of the movement’s strength.

He pledged that, if elected to the Senate, he would fight daily for North Carolina families, emphasizing his commitment to conservative principles and close alignment with Trump’s agenda.

Whatley concluded by endorsing Trump as both the 45th and 47th president of the United States, drawing applause from supporters at the event.
