Mayors Risking Own Citizens Over Trump Hatred

Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, is warning that mayors who are refusing President Donald Trump’s offer of National Guard resources are putting their own communities in serious danger. With crime rising, police departments stretched thin, and immigration pressures mounting, she says these city leaders are choosing politics over public safety.

Speaking on Newsmax’s Newsline, Van Duyne said major metropolitan mayors are openly rejecting federal support that could stabilize neighborhoods dealing with violence, repeat offenders, and overwhelmed first responders.

“They’re not only blocking the Trump administration from giving them the support they clearly need—and that their citizens overwhelmingly want—they’re also pushing the message that law enforcement is the enemy,” Van Duyne said.

National Guard Troops Ready to Assist — But Radical Mayors Say No

Her remarks come as the Trump administration prepares to deploy more than 500 National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., as part of a major public-safety initiative. Texas Guard units were previously sent to Chicago at federal request before returning home.

Van Duyne sharply criticized what she called radical city leadership for refusing to cooperate with federal agencies that are trying to restore order.

“They’re encouraging activists to confront and film ICE agents who are simply enforcing the law and protecting American families,” she said. “It’s reckless, it’s dangerous, and it sends exactly the wrong message.”

Communities Overwhelmed by Illegal Immigration Surges

The Texas congresswoman also backed President Trump’s proposed temporary halt on immigration from unstable regions of the world. She argued that towns and cities are already strained by what she described as a historic wave of illegal immigration under the Biden administration.

“There are consequences to letting 20 million people cross into this country illegally without proper vetting,” Van Duyne warned. “When crime rises and new threats emerge, none of this should be surprising.”

Van Duyne: It’s Time to Restore Order and Enforce the Law

Van Duyne said she plans to work closely with the Trump administration on new measures to:

  • Strengthen migrant vetting
  • Deport criminal offenders
  • Rebuild the enforcement standards she says were abandoned in recent years

She emphasized that restoring law and order will require cooperation between federal, state, and local officials — not political grandstanding.
