Cuomo Makes A Comeback?

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is staging a surprising political comeback — and it’s rattling Democrats across New York City.

A brand-new Suffolk University poll, taken just eight days before Election Day, shows Cuomo cutting Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani’s lead in half. The once-dominant progressive is suddenly losing ground as frustrated voters rally behind the independent former governor.

🔹 Poll Shock: Cuomo Gains, Mamdani Slides

The poll shows Mamdani now leading with 44%, followed by Cuomo at 34%, and Republican Curtis Sliwa holding steady at 11%.

That’s a dramatic shift from last month’s numbers — when Mamdani held a 20-point lead (45% to 25%). Since then, Cuomo has surged ten points, powered by disillusioned Democrats, independents, and Hispanic voters tired of radical city policies.

Even more telling: 7% of voters remain undecided, meaning the race could swing sharply in the final stretch.

🔹 Adams Drops Out — Cuomo Gains Momentum

Former NYC Mayor Eric Adams recently suspended his re-election campaign and endorsed Cuomo, calling him the “steady hand New York needs.”

Though Adams’ name still appears on the ballot, only about 2% of voters say they’ll still back him — and most change their minds when told he’s dropped out.

That endorsement is fueling Cuomo’s rise, especially among moderate Democrats who’ve grown frustrated with crime, taxes, and the city’s declining quality of life under left-wing leadership.

🔹 Sliwa Supporters Could Decide the Election

Political analyst David Paleologos of Suffolk University notes that Sliwa’s voters could play a decisive role.

“Sliwa’s supporters hold the 11% blocking Cuomo from winning outright,” Paleologos said, pointing out that 36% of Sliwa voters list Cuomo as their second choice — compared to just 2% for Mamdani.

That means if conservatives and independents consolidate behind Cuomo, the Democrat’s path to victory could evaporate overnight.

🔹 Key Demographics Shift Toward Cuomo

The poll reveals a massive turnaround among key voter groups:

  • Hispanic voters: Cuomo now leads Mamdani by 1 point, after trailing by 30 points just last month.
  • Independent voters: Cuomo now holds a 10-point advantage, flipping an 18-point deficit.

Cuomo’s steady rise signals growing frustration with progressive politics and soft-on-crime leadership that’s left New York reeling.

🔹 New Yorkers Say: Enough Is Enough

Across the five boroughs, New Yorkers are voicing the same concerns — crime, affordability, and safety.

Many lifelong Democrats are quietly breaking ranks, saying the city needs a pragmatic, law-and-order approach — not more radical experiments from the far left.

As one voter told the pollsters: “We gave the progressives a chance. All we got was chaos.”

🔹 The Bottom Line

With Election Day looming and momentum shifting fast, Andrew Cuomo’s independent run is becoming one of the most unpredictable and closely watched races in the country.

The Suffolk University poll surveyed 500 likely NYC voters between October 23–26, with a margin of error of ±4.4%.
