Massie Fires Back At Trump

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) made it clear on Monday that he will not bow to pressure from President Trump or his allies regarding the upcoming government funding measure. Massie’s defiant statement came in response to a comment from Chris LaCivita, former Trump campaign manager, who warned Massie with a “tick tock Tommie” remark, suggesting that time was running out for the Congressman to support the bill.

Massie, a staunch advocate for fiscal responsibility and limited government, pushed back strongly, writing on X, “Someone thinks they can control my voting card by threatening my re-election. Guess what? Doesn’t work on me.” He continued, reminding his critics that his constituents value transparency and principles over blind loyalty. Massie pointed out that in three previous primary challenges, none of his opponents were able to break 25 percent of the vote, highlighting the strong support he has from those who share his values.

As the only Republican in the House to definitively oppose the continuing resolution that would fund the government through September, Massie’s stance has drawn the ire of President Trump, who publicly threatened to support a primary challenger against him. In a Truth Social post, Trump accused Massie of being an automatic “NO” vote and compared him to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), calling him a “grandstander” who was “too much trouble.” Trump even promised to lead the charge to oust Massie in the next primary.

Despite the growing pressure, Massie remains unwavering in his opposition to what he views as wasteful government spending. On X, he made it clear that he would not vote for the “cut-copy-paste omnibus” budget, criticizing the “waste, fraud, and abuse” that continues to plague federal spending.

While Massie’s position has drawn fire from Trump and some Republicans, he has used the backlash to rally support for his re-election, positioning himself as the one member of Congress who won’t compromise on principles. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) has supported Massie, despite disagreeing with his position. Johnson praised Massie as a “thoughtful guy” and noted that while they have had differences, he respects Massie’s convictions.

Massie’s unwavering commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility continues to resonate with his supporters, even as it puts him at odds with some of the party’s top figures. He remains steadfast in his belief that doing what is right for the American people is more important than political pressure or party loyalty.
