Trump Approves Emergency Declaration

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he has approved an emergency declaration for Montana following severe storms that caused widespread damage across the state earlier this week.

Trump shared the announcement on Truth Social, saying he spoke directly with Montana Governor Greg Gianforte to confirm that federal assistance would be made available to affected communities.

Trump said he spoke with Montana Governor Greg Gianforte and confirmed that he is approving an emergency declaration to address the severe storms that hit the state earlier this month, adding that he has strong affection for Montana.

Powerful storms moved through Montana late Tuesday into early Wednesday, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain, and hail. The severe weather knocked out power, downed trees, damaged buildings, and flooded roadways in multiple areas.

Local authorities reported significant disruptions as emergency crews worked through the night to restore electricity, clear debris, and secure dangerous areas. Residents were urged to remain indoors while crews assessed damage and worked to stabilize conditions.

An emergency declaration enables a rapid federal response by making funding and assistance available to state and local authorities. It allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency to deliver direct aid for lifesaving efforts, temporary shelter, debris cleanup, and other urgent priorities.

The declaration also helps speed the deployment of federal personnel and equipment, covers eligible emergency response costs, and may temporarily waive certain regulations to streamline recovery efforts.

State leaders said the federal assistance will help communities begin cleanup and recovery efforts as they work to rebuild following the storms.
