Mamdani Taunts Trump

New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is already sending shockwaves through the city after signaling that he intends to block immigration enforcement the moment he steps into office. His plans directly conflict with President Donald Trump’s renewed focus on strong borders, national security, and law-and-order leadership.

In an interview with PIX 11, Mamdani revealed that he has already met with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch—who is expected to remain in her position. Mamdani said the meetings were focused on restricting cooperation with federal immigration authorities, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Mamdani made it clear he wants to reverse what he called the “Adams-era approach” of allowing the NYPD to assist federal agents.

“We can never go back to the days where the NYPD handled any civil immigration enforcement,” Mamdani said. “That can never even be entertained.”

Mamdani Says New York Will Not Cooperate With Trump Immigration Measures

On X, Mamdani insisted he expects a “strong working relationship” with Commissioner Tisch, but emphasized that his goal is to reshape New York’s approach to public safety—one that critics say prioritizes ideology over security.

His remarks come at a time when New York City is experiencing:

  • A historic migrant surge
  • Soaring costs associated with sanctuary policies
  • Increased pressure on law enforcement
  • Public concerns about safety and accountability

Despite these challenges, Mamdani says he wants to ensure that immigrants—legal or not—never fear an encounter with ICE.

He referenced a resident who said her family was visited by federal agents.

“People are living in fear,” Mamdani said. “The NYPD will deliver public safety—not assist ICE in creating the single largest deportation force in American history.”

NYPD Officers Told Not to Assist ICE — Even With Advance Notice

Mamdani was asked what Commissioner Tisch should do if her department receives advance notice of an immigration operation.

His answer was blunt:

“No officers are to assist ICE. Period.”

This stance effectively places New York City in direct opposition to the Trump administration’s nationwide push to restore order, security, and enforcement of federal law.

Mamdani Says NYC Will Protect Illegal Immigrants, Not Cooperate With Federal Agents

The mayor-elect doubled down, saying New York is “an immigrant city” and will shield residents—regardless of immigration status—from federal operations.

“We will protect those New Yorkers as we protect every New Yorker,” he said.

Critics argue this approach places ideology above the safety of law-abiding citizens and further establishes New York as a sanctuary city at a time when many Americans want stronger borders and tougher enforcement.

Conservatives Warn of Extreme Far-Left Policies Driving Residents Out

Mamdani takes office on January 1, and many analysts warn his agenda may accelerate the ongoing mass exodus of residents and businesses fleeing the city.

His broader platform includes:

  • City-run grocery stores
  • Expanded rent control
  • Free child care programs
  • Aggressive “socialist-style” policies

Conservative leaders say these proposals could drive taxes higher, reduce public safety, and push more families and companies to relocate to safer, more affordable areas.
