Trump Official Issues New Warning
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sounded the alarm Tuesday, warning Americans that the nation’s air travel system could face total chaos if the government shutdown drags into the weekend.
“You’re going to notice even greater disruption this Friday through Sunday,” Duffy warned during a Washington press conference. “We’ve already seen significant delays, but if the government remains closed, the situation will get much worse heading into the weekend.”
The shutdown, now stretching beyond a month, has already led to serious slowdowns at airports nationwide. But Duffy says the worst is yet to come if lawmakers fail to act.
“It’s going to slow down dramatically,” he said. “Now it’s up to the House to step up and do its job. I’m optimistic, though — they seem ready and willing to come in and vote to reopen the government.”
⚠️ Flights Already Being Cut Nationwide
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), flights at 40 U.S. airports were reduced by 6% on Tuesday due to staffing and budget constraints linked to the shutdown.
That means longer lines, delayed flights, and frustrated travelers across the country — all while Congress plays politics.
🏛 Senate Moves — House Still Stalling
On Monday, the Senate voted 60–40 to advance a funding bill that would reopen key government agencies — including military construction, veterans affairs, agriculture, and the legislative branch — through next September.
The rest of the federal government would be funded temporarily for the next two and a half months. The measure now heads to the House, where Democrats must decide whether to put politics aside and vote to end the shutdown.
🚨 Trump and Duffy Push for Urgent Action
Duffy made clear that President Trump is ready to get America moving again — but he needs cooperation from Congress.
“We’re very close to getting the government back up and running,” Duffy said. “My concern is that, even once that happens, air traffic controllers may not return to their posts immediately. I’ve urged them to come back as soon as possible, and President Trump has done the same. It’s their responsibility, and they will receive their pay — though it may take a little time before operations are fully restored.”
🇺🇸 The Bottom Line
Millions of Americans depend on safe, reliable air travel, and this shutdown is hitting them hardest — from veterans trying to get home, to families traveling for the holidays.
Duffy’s warning couldn’t be clearer: if Democrats don’t act soon, America’s airports could grind to a halt, leaving travelers stranded and the economy reeling.
President Trump continues pushing for responsible leadership and a government that works for the people — not against them.
