Vice President Vance Calls Out Minneapolis Leaders Over Lack of Support for Federal Law Enforcement
Vice President J.D. Vance on Sunday criticized Minneapolis city leadership for what he described as a failure to support federal law enforcement during ongoing immigration enforcement activity in the city. According to Vance, the lack of cooperation has contributed to confusion, public disorder, and increased risks for officers tasked with enforcing federal law.
In a post shared on social media, Vance highlighted an incident involving off-duty federal immigration officers who were dining at a Minneapolis restaurant when their personal information was reportedly exposed online. The officers were later confronted by members of the public, prompting calls for assistance.
Vance said local police did not respond to the situation, leaving the officers to rely on fellow federal agents for help. He attributed the response, or lack thereof, to policies set by city and state officials that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
According to the vice president, the incident reflects a broader breakdown in coordination between local governments and federal agencies responsible for border security and immigration enforcement.
“When state and local leaders refuse to work with federal law enforcement, situations like this become inevitable,” Vance wrote. “This is the result of political decisions that prioritize ideology over public safety.”
Vance also argued that resistance to immigration enforcement has made it more difficult for officers to do their jobs safely and effectively. He accused local officials of fostering an environment where enforcement actions are routinely criticized rather than supported.
“The solution is straightforward,” Vance added. “Local leaders need to stop obstructing federal law enforcement and start putting public safety first.”
The comments come as Minneapolis remains a focal point in the national debate over immigration policy and the role of state and local governments in cooperating with federal authorities.
