Strange Signs Seen At Trump Speech
On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump entered the room to deliver his address to a joint session of Congress, shaking hands with Republicans who eagerly awaited his words. Among the crowd, one moment stood out when a small sign was raised in protest. The sign, written in black ink, read, “This is NOT Normal.” It was held by Rep. Melanie Stansbury, a Democrat from New Mexico, who represents Albuquerque and surrounding areas in the House of Representatives.
As Trump made his way down the line of supporters, Rep. Lance Gooden, a Republican from Texas, swiftly snatched the sign from Stansbury’s hands. Undeterred, Stansbury stood silently, not participating in the applause, as Trump moved toward the podium to begin his speech.
Stansbury, a New Mexico native, entered Congress in 2021 after taking over the seat vacated by Rep. Deb Haaland, who became President Biden’s Secretary of the Interior. Before her time in the House, Stansbury served as a staffer in the New Mexico Senate and worked for the White House Office of Management and Budget. Her platform focuses on issues like climate change, protecting natural resources, and addressing food insecurity.
Stansbury wasn’t alone in her disapproval. Rep. Al Green of Texas was escorted out of the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms after he heckled the president during his speech. In addition, several Democratic members turned their backs on Trump, displaying anti-Trump slogans like “RESIST” and “No Kings live here” on their shirts. Some of these Democrats chose to walk out of the chamber altogether, leaving in protest as the speech stretched past an hour.
While the Democrats used their actions to voice their opposition, Republicans in the room remained focused and supportive, clearly backing President Trump’s agenda. The event was a clear illustration of the deep political divide between the two parties, with Republicans standing firm in their support for the president and his policies despite the dramatic protests from the other side.
