Comey Pushes New Excuse
Controversy continues to follow former FBI Director James Comey, whose recent social media post raised serious eyebrows — and not just from conservatives.
In a now-deleted Instagram photo, Comey posted an image of seashells arranged to form the numbers “8647” — a combination that many online interpreted as a coded message calling for violence against President Donald Trump, who is widely expected to become the 47th President of the United States in 2024.
Was It a Coincidence—or a Message?
Comey appeared on MSNBC’s left-leaning Deadline: White House to defend himself against mounting criticism from Trump supporters, veterans, and even former law enforcement officials. The numbers, which some interpret as a reference to “86” (slang for eliminate) and “47” (Trump’s expected presidential number), were seen as deeply inappropriate for a former top federal official.
“I regret the distraction and the controversy,” Comey told host Nicole Wallace, a frequent Trump critic. “Even in hindsight, it looks to me to be totally innocent.”
But many aren’t convinced. In fact, sources confirm that the U.S. Secret Service questioned Comey over the meaning of the post — a move that underscores how seriously the matter is being taken.
Comey: From FBI Director to Liberal Media Darling
James Comey, who was fired by President Trump in 2017 after his questionable handling of the Clinton email scandal, has since reinvented himself as a vocal figure on the liberal media circuit. His frequent appearances on MSNBC and CNN often include sharp criticisms of Trump, his supporters, and Republican voters.
“I’ve been investigated a lot, audited a lot… it’s not my first rodeo,” Comey said, brushing off the latest firestorm.
He even joked that Trump can’t “get over” him because he has “lived a happy, productive life” since leaving public service — a tone that many critics called condescending and tone-deaf, given the serious nature of the controversy.
Damage Control Mode
After enormous public outcry — particularly from America’s 50+ conservative voter base, which remains one of the most politically active and informed groups in the nation — Comey deleted the post.
“I wasn’t aware that some people link those numbers to violent meanings,” he explained in a later post. “That connection never crossed my mind—but I’m firmly against any form of violence, which is why I chose to remove the image.”
But critics say ignorance is no excuse, especially from someone who once led the world’s most powerful domestic law enforcement agency.
A Pattern of Double Standards?
Many conservatives see this as yet another example of the two-tiered justice system — one where liberal elites, former officials, and media darlings get a pass, while Trump and his supporters are endlessly targeted and investigated.
“If a Trump ally had posted those numbers, the FBI would’ve raided their house by now,” said one political analyst.
Bottom Line
As the 2024 election approaches and President Trump continues to surge in national polls, expect more of these subtle—and not-so-subtle—attacks from the liberal establishment. But patriotic Americans are paying attention, and they won’t be easily fooled.
