GOP Confesses On Spending Bill Deficit
Texas Congressman Pete Sessions (R) is defending the Republican-led spending package, calling it a necessary step to protect President Trump’s pro-growth agenda and prevent Democrat overreach.
In a Thursday morning interview with CNN, Sessions made it clear: while deficit spending is not ideal, conservative lawmakers are making hard choices to shield American jobs, preserve tax relief, and avoid destructive liberal policies.
“I don’t want to see any deficit spending,” Sessions said. “But we’re stuck in a scenario where Republicans must act on our own terms — or risk letting Democrats run wild with taxpayer dollars.”
Compromise to Protect Red-State Values
Sessions acknowledged that some provisions — including an increase in the SALT deduction cap — were included to gain support from Republicans in blue-leaning states. But the overarching goal, he emphasized, is to protect middle-class families from being crushed by Democrat-run tax systems.
“We want to stop working families from fleeing blue states where they can’t even afford their own property,” Sessions explained. “This is about keeping jobs in America and restoring economic sanity.”
A Stand Against Out-of-Control Spending by the Left
Sessions warned that failing to pass this bill under Republican control would open the door to backroom deals with Democrats, who have shown no interest in reducing spending.
“If we don’t pass this now, we’re left negotiating with nine Democrats — and that only leads to higher taxes and more waste,” he said. “That means less of President Trump’s vision gets through Congress.”
Elon Musk Criticism, CBO Score Add Pressure
The legislation, which spans over 1,100 pages, has drawn fire from critics including tech billionaire Elon Musk. Adding fuel to the debate, the Congressional Budget Office projected the bill could increase the national deficit by $2.4 trillion over the next decade.
But Sessions maintains the bill is worth the cost — if it means preserving tax cuts, restoring energy independence, and keeping Trump’s America First agenda alive.
“It’s not perfect,” Sessions admitted. “But it’s the fight we must take on to protect American families, conservative values, and the future of our economy.”
