Trump Makes BRICS Cry
As global tensions rise, the powerful BRICS alliance issued a declaration on Sunday condemning the use of unilateral tariffs—an unmistakable swipe at President Donald Trump’s America First trade agenda, though they stopped short of naming him directly.
Meeting at a two-day summit in Brazil, the BRICS bloc—which now includes Russia, China, Iran, and other authoritarian regimes—expressed “serious concerns” about tariffs they claim violate World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. They warned such measures could “disrupt global supply chains” and harm global commerce.
“We express deep concern over the growing use of one-sided tariff and non-tariff actions that disrupt fair trade,” the declaration stated, reflecting the global establishment’s ongoing pushback against Trump’s assertive trade strategy.
The timing is no accident. President Trump’s 90-day pause on “reciprocal tariffs” is nearing its end. The policy, announced in April, gave countries a window to negotiate fairer trade deals—or face significant economic penalties. That deadline hits August 1.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed Sunday that formal notices will be sent to U.S. trade partners starting Monday. Those who fail to reach a deal will face the full weight of Trump’s tariff plan.
“Countries that refuse to negotiate fairly will see tariffs boomerang back—stronger than before,” Bessent stated.
In addition to criticizing tariffs, BRICS lashed out at NATO’s decision to raise member defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035—a move directly influenced by President Trump’s relentless push for European nations to pay their fair share in defense of the West.
Trump, never one to back down, issued a sharp warning on Truth Social:
“Nations that choose to support BRICS’ anti-American agenda will face an extra 10% tariff—no exceptions,” Trump declared Sunday evening.
Founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, BRICS has recently expanded to include Iran, Indonesia, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE. Many of these nations have signaled ambitions to weaken the U.S. dollar and shift global influence eastward—an economic threat the Trump administration is watching closely.
In response, Trump has warned that if BRICS attempts to undermine the U.S. dollar, his administration is prepared to impose 100% tariffs on member nations.
With Trump once again taking bold action to defend American jobs, manufacturing, and sovereignty, global power players are clearly feeling the pressure.
