Americans Unable To Retire
Is retirement slipping away? For millions of hard-working Americans, it sadly might be.
A new national survey shows that 23% of pre-retirees are now delaying retirement, up sharply from 14% just a year ago. The reason? Soaring inflation, rising costs, and deepening economic instability.
Survey Reveals Surging Anxiety Among Pre-Retirees
The poll, conducted by F&G Annuities & Life, found that nearly 1 in 4 Americans approaching retirement age now feel forced to postpone their retirement plans. Many are deeply concerned about:
- Outliving their savings
- Unpredictable stock market swings
- The rising cost of living
- A shrinking safety net under current leadership
This troubling shift reflects just how much economic confidence has eroded in the Biden era.
Even Retirees Are Heading Back to Work
It gets worse. The survey also found that 29% of Americans overall are considering going back to work — including 54% of Gen X retirees and 28% of Baby Boomers.
For many older Americans, the retirement they were promised is being replaced by financial uncertainty and part-time jobs.
Chris Blunt, CEO of F&G, commented:
“The current economic environment is creating significantly more stress for American investors, leading many to delay retirement or return to work.”
He emphasized the growing need for guaranteed income solutions, such as annuities, that can protect against market downturns and secure a stable retirement.
Boomers Betrayed: From Strong 401(k)s to Skyrocketing Prices
Under President Trump, seniors enjoyed strong market growth, lower taxes, and confidence in their retirement plans.
Now, after years of reckless spending and inflation under Biden, retirees are being squeezed harder than ever — with many forced to delay retirement or re-enter the workforce just to stay afloat.
What This Means for You
If you’re nearing retirement age, this trend is a wake-up call. Now more than ever, it’s essential to:
✅ Re-evaluate your retirement strategy
✅ Explore income guarantees like annuities
✅ Cut unnecessary expenses and inflation risks
✅ Stay informed about political decisions impacting your future
Your golden years shouldn’t be filled with stress, side jobs, or second-guessing. It’s time for leadership that puts American retirees first.
