Trump’s Message To The GOP

President Donald Trump declared Wednesday that Republicans will succeed in keeping the government open as the September 30th funding deadline approaches, even as Democrats dig in their heels and refuse to cooperate.

Speaking to reporters, Trump was clear and confident when asked if a shutdown could be avoided:
“Yeah, I do. I think the Republicans will vote for an extension.”

Trump: Democrats Are Obsessed With Blocking Progress

Trump didn’t hold back when criticizing Democrats for what he called a total refusal to work across party lines — even on critical issues like keeping the government running.

“We won’t get a single Democrat vote. We could put forward the greatest budget in history — a 50% tax cut, a plan that takes care of everyone: women, men, minorities, everyone — and they’d still vote against it,” Trump said.
“They’ve completely lost their minds. This is Trump Derangement Syndrome at its absolute worst.”

The President went further, describing Democrat leadership as “sick people” who are more focused on attacking him than serving the American people.
He predicted a “tremendous midterm election victory” for Republicans as voters grow tired of Democrat obstruction and chaos.

Funding Fight Heating Up

To prevent a shutdown, lawmakers may need to pass a short-term spending bill, also known as a continuing resolution. However, because Republicans hold only slim majorities in both the House and Senate, they would need at least some Democrat support to pass the measure.

Complicating matters, Trump is pushing to cancel wasteful government spending approved by past Congresses through a process called “pocket rescissions.”
This bold move has sparked outrage among Democrats, who worry that even if a funding deal is reached, Trump could later cut off funding for specific programs they support.

Schumer Lashes Out at Trump

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) fired back, accusing Trump and Republicans of rejecting bipartisanship.

“As the September 30th deadline approaches, it’s clear President Trump and congressional Republicans have no real plan to prevent a painful and completely unnecessary shutdown,” Schumer claimed.

Republicans counter that Democrats are the ones playing politics by refusing to negotiate, even if it means risking the basic functioning of government.

Bottom Line

With the September 30th deadline looming, President Trump is taking a hardline stance to protect taxpayers, cut waste, and keep the government open — while Democrats appear more interested in partisan warfare than working for the American people.

As tensions rise in Washington, one thing is clear: the fight over government funding could shape the 2026 midterms and determine who controls Congress.
