Trump Criticizes Zelensky Again
President Donald Trump on Friday called out Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for dragging his feet on signing a major minerals agreement with the United States — a deal vital to America’s national security and economic future.
Posting on Truth Social while en route to Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis, President Trump wrote:
“Ukraine, led by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has failed to sign the important Rare Earths Deal with the United States. It’s now more than three weeks overdue. Hopefully, it will be signed IMMEDIATELY. Peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are progressing smoothly. SUCCESS is looking very likely!”
The minerals agreement would secure U.S. access to Ukraine’s critical mineral reserves — vital for everything from defense technology to energy independence. Originally expected to be signed nearly two months ago during Zelensky’s visit to Washington, the deal was put on hold after tensions surfaced between the two leaders.
President Trump reassured Americans last week that the deal was still on track, stating it would be finalized “soon.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that while the final arrangements were being ironed out, officials were aiming to complete the signing by this Saturday.
Zelensky recently suggested that Ukraine and the U.S. could sign a memorandum of intent in the coming days, but formal completion remains elusive.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. Under President Trump’s leadership, securing rare earth minerals has become a national priority. Last month, Trump signed an executive order ramping up American production of critical minerals — a move seen as essential to protecting U.S. industries and reducing dependence on hostile nations like China.
In a hard-hitting interview with Time magazine published Friday, President Trump did not mince words. He placed blame for the Ukraine-Russia conflict squarely on Kyiv’s reckless pursuit of NATO membership, a provocation he says led directly to war. Trump also stated that Crimea is likely to remain under Russian control as part of a realistic peace settlement.
In recent remarks, President Trump emphasized that a genuine peace would require Russia to halt any further attempts to seize Ukrainian territory. Notably, he described Zelensky as a more difficult negotiator than Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As Trump continues leading with strength and common sense on the global stage, Americans can be confident he is keeping their security, prosperity, and peace at the forefront.
