Trump Teams Pulls Back On The Marines

In a powerful reminder that lawlessness has no place in American cities, the Trump administration is beginning the phased withdrawal of 700 U.S. Marines from Los Angeles. The troops were originally deployed to support federal immigration enforcement after violent protests erupted over President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed Monday that with order being restored, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has greenlit the Marines’ redeployment. “The presence of these Marines sent a clear message: chaos will not be tolerated, and the rule of law will be upheld,” Parnell said.

The Trump administration had deployed over 4,100 California National Guard members and 700 Marines to the city in June to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during federal immigration raids. The mission came after radical left-wing demonstrators clashed with authorities in protest of lawful deportation efforts.

Despite opposition from California’s Democrat leadership, including Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, President Trump took decisive action to protect federal agents and American citizens. Critics like Newsom accused Trump of “militarizing” immigration enforcement, but the results spoke for themselves: peace was restored, property damage was halted, and federal agents were able to carry out their duties safely.

Now, with tensions reduced, roughly half of the 4,000 remaining National Guard members have already been sent home. Another 150 troops were reassigned earlier this month to assist in battling wildfires. About 2,000 Guard personnel will remain in the city to ensure ICE can continue its critical work.

Gov. Newsom, echoing far-left talking points, called the deployments “political theater” and demanded all federal forces leave California. “Thousands of service members are still here for no reason,” he complained on social media. But for many Americans—especially working-class families and legal immigrants—Trump’s bold move brought relief and renewed trust in law enforcement.

Mayor Karen Bass also criticized the deployment, calling it “unnecessary” in a video posted online. “The Marines will be able to return to their families,” she said, glossing over the fact that federal troops helped prevent further unrest.

The Marines are expected to return to their base in Twentynine Palms within days, according to a Defense official. But the message has already been delivered loud and clear: under President Donald J. Trump, the United States will not surrender its streets to mob rule.

This latest success adds to Trump’s growing list of accomplishments in defending America’s sovereignty, standing up to open-border extremists, and protecting federal agents from politically driven attacks.
