GOP Doubles Down On Trump’s Healthcare Plan

Sen. Bill Cassidy says President Donald Trump’s bold healthcare vision is now driving a major Republican push to overhaul the Affordable Care Act and return power to American patients instead of insurance companies or Washington bureaucrats.

During an interview on Newsmax’s Sunday Report, Cassidy explained that the GOP’s plan focuses on redirecting billions currently flowing to insurance companies and sending that money straight to U.S. families, lowering premiums and restoring real choice in the healthcare market.

“Right now, insurance companies get the money and skim 20% for overhead and profit,” Cassidy said. “Instead of boosting insurance-company profits, let’s give real power back to the patient.”

Billions in Obamacare Costs Could Go Directly to Families

Cassidy highlighted a key number: Obamacare’s extended premium tax credits are set to cost taxpayers $26 billion next year.

Under a Trump-backed plan, that money would go directly to individuals through patient-controlled benefits, encouraging Americans to choose lower-cost coverage paired with strong Health Savings Accounts—a popular option for older conservatives who want control over their own healthcare decisions.

“Premiums and deductibles will be lower under a Republican plan,” Cassidy said. “And instead of begging insurance companies for permission, the patient decides exactly what care she needs.”

Cassidy said even some Democrats are quietly willing to negotiate—largely because Trump’s approach appeals to frustrated families across the political spectrum.

“President Trump is all in,” Cassidy added. “This isn’t a Republican plan or a Democrat plan. This is an American plan.”

Cassidy Urges Vaccine Questions Be Taken to Doctors: ‘I Want America Healthy’

Cassidy also clarified recent comments about vaccines, emphasizing that parents should rely on trusted medical advice—not social media rumors.

He stressed that no credible medical authority links vaccines to autism, and he noted that President Trump has consistently supported routine immunizations.

“When President Trump had his physical, he received both the flu and COVID vaccines,” Cassidy said. “We want America healthy. We never want another child dying from a preventable illness.”

Cassidy cited heartbreaking cases—including two children in West Texas and a pregnant woman who lost her unborn child after exposure to an unvaccinated individual—to underline why families should talk openly with their physicians.

Education Reform: Trump Backs Aggressive Overhaul and Expanded School Choice

Cassidy also praised President Trump’s efforts to overhaul the Department of Education after decades of failure. He noted that 20% to 40% of fourth-graders cannot read at a basic level, calling the numbers unacceptable.

“We can do better than that—but we haven’t,” he said.

Cassidy applauded Trump’s willingness to disrupt the system.

“Sometimes you’ve got to break a few eggs,” he said. “And this president is not afraid to challenge the bureaucrats.”

Central to Cassidy’s message is school choice, a top conservative priority that empowers parents rather than teachers’ unions.

“Too many kids have been trapped in failing schools for generations,” he said. “Republicans want to give parents the power to choose. Let Mama and Daddy make the decision—not Washington.”
