Democrat Gets Convicted

Calls Intensify for Resignation as Democrats Hold Slim One-Seat Majority

Minnesota Democrat State Senator Nicole Mitchell has been convicted of first-degree burglary after unlawfully breaking into her stepmother’s home, delivering another blow to a Democrat Party already facing mounting scandals and credibility issues.

Mitchell, who once worked as a television meteorologist and served as a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard, was arrested in April 2024. Her arrest came just months into her first term in the Minnesota State Senate, where Democrats currently cling to a fragile one-seat majority.

Democrat Senator Faces Prison Time After Burglary Conviction

The conviction stems from an incident where Mitchell was caught entering her stepmother’s home through a window—an event captured on police bodycam footage. Mitchell claimed she wasn’t trying to steal anything, instead stating she was checking on her stepmother’s health and trying to retrieve personal belongings from her late father.

Despite her explanation, a jury found Mitchell guilty. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled, but jail time remains a strong possibility, according to the Associated Press.

Senate Democrat Leader Pressured to Enforce Resignation

Although Mitchell has not resigned, Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (D) acknowledged that Mitchell told her Democrat colleagues she would step down if convicted.

“I expect her to follow through on that pledge,” Murphy said in a statement Friday, as pressure mounts from both sides of the aisle.

But Republicans are not waiting. They’ve been calling for Mitchell’s resignation for months—long before the guilty verdict was handed down.

GOP Slams Mitchell’s Continued Role in Passing Legislation

Senate Republican Leader Mark Johnson (R) sharply criticized Mitchell’s actions and warned about the damage to the chamber’s credibility.

“Her continued participation in the Minnesota Senate leaves the body with a stain on its record every time her vote is the deciding vote in passing legislation,” Johnson stated.

With Democrats holding power by only one vote, Mitchell’s conviction could have far-reaching consequences for key legislative efforts in the state—especially those opposed by conservative lawmakers.

A Pattern of Democrat Scandals?

For many conservatives, this latest scandal is yet another example of the growing lack of accountability among Democrat officials. Voters across the country—especially older Americans—are demanding leaders who follow the law, uphold traditional values, and respect the public trust.

The question now: Will Mitchell finally resign, or will Democrat leaders once again turn a blind eye to criminal behavior within their own ranks?
