Trump Shares Interesting Photo

President Donald Trump shared a striking image Tuesday from inside the Oval Office, posting a photo of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani standing beside a framed copy of the Declaration of Independence.

The post, shared on Trump’s Truth Social platform, quickly drew attention online as the president highlighted what he described as an ironic moment involving the progressive mayor.

“Zohran has come a long way embracing, of course, the Declaration of Independence while at the Oval Office — Big progress!” Trump wrote alongside the photo.

The image shows Mamdani smiling lightly while standing next to the historic document during a recent visit to the White House.

Trump and Mamdani Meet at the White House

The photo was taken during Mamdani’s visit to Washington last Thursday, when the New York City mayor met with President Trump to discuss a major housing development proposal in the city.

The meeting marked the second time the two leaders have sat down together since Mamdani was elected mayor in November.

Despite their sharp political differences, the two have maintained a surprisingly cordial working relationship when discussing issues affecting New York City.

During the meeting, Mamdani presented Trump with a proposal for a $21 billion housing project that would build roughly 12,000 housing units in Queens.

Queens holds special significance for both men. Mamdani previously represented the borough in the New York State Assembly, while Trump himself was born and raised in Queens.

A Symbolic Gift Referencing New York History

During the White House meeting, Mamdani also brought a symbolic gift connected to New York’s political history.

He also gave Trump a copy of the well-known 1975 New York Daily News front page that criticized President Gerald Ford during New York City’s financial crisis, which carried the now-famous headline: “Ford to City: Drop Dead.”

Alongside the historic newspaper, Mamdani brought a mock version featuring Trump’s image and a different message:

“Trump to City: Let’s Build.”

The president appeared amused by the gesture in photos shared after the meeting.

Following the visit, Mamdani posted about the meeting on social media.

Mamdani later posted on X that his discussion with President Trump had been productive and said he was optimistic about moving forward with plans to expand housing development across New York City.

Immigration Issue Also Raised During Meeting

Later in the day, Mamdani said President Trump personally informed him during a phone call that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would release Columbia University student Elmina Aghayeva after the mayor raised concerns about the case during their conversation.

The mayor said he appreciated the president addressing the issue following their discussion.

Political Differences Still Remain

Despite moments of cooperation, the two leaders have also publicly clashed over policy.

During his State of the Union address last week, President Trump joked about Mamdani’s far-left political ideology and referred to the democratic socialist mayor as a “communist.”

Still, Trump struck a somewhat friendly tone when speaking about him.

“I actually think he’s a nice guy,” Trump said. “We talk a lot. Bad policy — but a nice guy.”

For his part, Mamdani has also criticized several recent foreign policy decisions made by the administration.

Over the weekend, the mayor condemned the initial U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran, calling them a dangerous escalation that could lead to a wider conflict.

Mamdani wrote on social media that the strikes meant cities were being bombed, civilians were dying, and a new front of conflict was opening. He argued that Americans are not interested in another war aimed at regime change, saying people instead want relief from rising costs and a return to peace.

A Unique Political Relationship

While President Trump and Mayor Mamdani represent very different political philosophies, their interactions have shown an unusual mix of cooperation and criticism.

Trump’s latest social media post — highlighting the mayor standing beside the Declaration of Independence — appeared to capture that dynamic perfectly.

For supporters of the president, the image also served as a reminder of America’s founding principles and the enduring importance of the nation’s historic documents.
