Senate GOP To Rewrite Trump’s Beautiful Bill
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) laid it out plainly: “Everyone wants to go to Disney World, but America just can’t afford it anymore.” For Johnson and other fiscal conservatives, the bill’s current spending levels threaten to explode the national debt and betray the GOP’s promise to voters.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) echoed those concerns, warning that the bill won’t pass in its current form without serious revisions. He told Newsmax that the GOP cannot afford to repeat past mistakes. “I’m not particularly optimistic,” Thune admitted, citing “out-of-control spending.”
$6.5 Trillion in Cuts on the Table
A coalition of conservative senators is now pushing for a line-by-line review of the bill to identify roughly $6.5 trillion in federal spending cuts over the next decade. Their goal: restore fiscal sanity in Washington and protect the future of Social Security and Medicare.
Rand Paul: Republicans Risk “Owning the Deficit”
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) issued a stern warning: if the GOP includes a multi-trillion dollar debt ceiling increase, it will blow up its credibility.
“If Republicans raise the debt ceiling $4 or $5 trillion, they’ll own the deficit,” Paul said. “It shows we’re not serious about fixing the problem.”
The bill currently aims to raise the debt ceiling through the 2026 midterms—without needing to negotiate with Democrats.
Key Holdouts Demand Medicaid Fixes, Energy Tweaks
President Trump has been working the phones, speaking with Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) on Wednesday night to win his support. Meanwhile, Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) said the bill must be revised—especially on Medicaid reforms and green energy initiatives.
Murkowski noted that Medicaid provisions are particularly sensitive for her state:
“There are things we need to fix on the Medicaid side that are challenging for Alaska.”
What’s at Stake for Seniors, Veterans, and Families?
This legislation will shape America’s economic future for the next decade. For older Americans living on fixed incomes, skyrocketing debt and unchecked spending could lead to higher taxes and inflation down the road.
That’s why it’s critical that the Senate gets this right. Conservatives are calling for:
- Real spending reductions
- No blank checks for government waste
- Support for Trump’s America First agenda
