It has long been speculated that Democrat Rep. Hakeem Jeffries would eventually replace House Speaker Nancy Pelosi however Politico’s Jonathan Martin now believe’s he has already secured the spot!
According to Axios, Rep. Jeffries was very nervous about all of the rumors that Democrat Adam Schiff was secretly campaigning to take Pelosi’s position. As a result Jeffries asked for a private meeting with House Majority Whip James Clyburn to talk about his future as Pelosi’s replacement.
Clyburn reassured Jeffries that Pelosi position was essentially his and told Politico’s Jonathan Martin, “There’s nothing I would ever do to impede the progress of our up-and-coming young Democrats and I see him as an up-and-coming young Democrat.”
“He knows that, I didn’t have to tell him that — but I did,” Clyburn later added talking about Jeffries.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been very secretive as well about her political future. Thankfully however, there appears to be some very strong signs that she is going to leave the House after the midterms and Republicans are itching for her to be gone!
