Trump Defends Chinese Students
President Donald Trump is pushing back against criticism after announcing that 600,000 Chinese students will be allowed into the United States — a move some say challenges his strict America First agenda.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller, Trump said the decision is not a concession, but part of a winning trade strategy that forces China to keep paying America while keeping U.S. universities strong.
“I have a very good relationship with President Xi,” Trump said. “It’s very insulting to a country when you say you won’t take their students. China is paying us a fortune right now — hundreds of millions. This is the right thing for America.”
Trump: China Still Paying America Through Tariffs
Trump reminded his supporters that China has already been hit with massive tariffs under his leadership, tariffs that Biden simply kept in place.
“They’re paying us hundreds of billions of dollars,” Trump said. “I don’t want anything in return. We’re doing well. We’re winning.”
The president argued that allowing Chinese students does not weaken U.S. immigration policy but instead showcases America’s global strength while keeping leverage in trade talks.
Rubio Wanted Visa Crackdowns — Trump Chose Smart Strategy
Earlier this year, Secretary of State Marco Rubio called for revoking visas of Chinese nationals linked to the Communist Party or sensitive U.S. industries. Trump’s approach, however, is broader — ensuring America gets paid while keeping diplomatic channels open.
“Getting along with countries is not bad,” Trump explained. “It’s smart — especially when you’re dealing with nuclear powers. We’ve already made China pay. They’ll keep paying.”
America First, On Our Terms
Trump clarified that the 600,000 student figure is spread over two years and stressed the U.S. isn’t giving away anything.
“No, no. I don’t want anything in return. They’re paying us,” Trump said. “Biden gave China a free pass. I never did.”
The announcement comes as the U.S. and China continue tense trade negotiations. Both sides agreed to scale back tariffs earlier this year, but Trump says the bottom line is simple: America is winning again under his policies.
