Vance Speaks On Gabbard
Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is stepping down from the Trump administration later this month after her husband was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, prompting an outpouring of support from Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump.
Gabbard announced Friday that she will officially resign at the end of June so she can focus on her family during what she described as a deeply personal and challenging time. According to her resignation letter, her husband Abraham was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive bone cancer.
The news quickly sparked reactions across conservative circles, with Vice President Vance publicly praising Gabbard for her service and commitment to the country.
“Tulsi is a patriot, a tremendous asset to this administration, and a trusted friend,” Vance wrote in a message posted to social media. “While I’m sorry to see her leave public service, family always comes first.”
Vance also said he and his family would be praying for both Tulsi and Abraham as they face the difficult road ahead.
Gabbard, a former Hawaii congresswoman and Army veteran, became one of the most recognizable members of the Trump administration after taking over as director of national intelligence in February 2025. During her tenure, she played a major role in overseeing America’s intelligence operations and frequently defended the administration’s America First national security priorities.
In her resignation letter, Gabbard thanked President Trump for the opportunity to serve the country in one of the government’s most critical leadership positions.
She explained that the decision to resign was not political, but entirely centered on supporting her husband through his medical battle. Gabbard described Abraham as “my rock” throughout their 11 years of marriage and reflected on the many challenges they faced together, including military deployments, political campaigns, and years of public service.
President Trump responded shortly after the announcement became public, praising Gabbard’s leadership and expressing confidence that her husband would recover.
“Tulsi has done an incredible job serving our country,” Trump wrote. He added that while the administration will miss her leadership, he fully supports her decision to stand beside her husband during this difficult chapter.
Trump also announced that Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas will serve as acting director following Gabbard’s departure on June 30.
The resignation marks a major transition within the administration’s intelligence leadership, while also highlighting the deeply personal sacrifices often made by public servants and their families behind the scenes.
