Trump never breaks a promise but will he break this one?
Plan Could Deliver Massive Relief to Millions of Working-Class Americans
In a move that could reshape America’s economic landscape, President Trump’s administration is reportedly considering allowing top income tax rates for the wealthiest Americans to rise—to pay for a bold new proposal that would eliminate federal income taxes on tipped wages.
This game-changing policy, aimed at helping millions of hardworking Americans in the service industry, could come with a powerful twist: wealthy earners may see their tax rate return to pre-2018 levels.
A Strategic Shift with Political Punch
According to Axios, a senior White House official said the most feasible way to fund this working-class tax break is by allowing the top income bracket to revert to 39.6%, undoing part of the 2017 Trump tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy.
“If we extend tax breaks for the rich while cutting programs like Medicaid, we’ll get politically slaughtered,” the source warned.
This approach may seem unconventional—but it could turn the tables on Democrats, who have spent years demanding higher taxes on the rich while attacking Trump’s successful tax reform plan.
Here’s What’s at Stake
Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Trump lowered the top federal income tax rate from 39.6% to 37%—benefiting those making over $609,000 (individuals) or $731,000 (married couples). That tax relief is set to expire on December 31, unless Congress steps in.
If allowed to sunset:
- Top 1% of earners will face higher taxes
- Thresholds for the top bracket will drop
- Tipped workers could see unprecedented tax relief
The Trump White House sees this as an opportunity to support everyday Americans—waiters, bartenders, and service workers—without jeopardizing economic stability.
Could This Turn the Tide in the Tax Debate?
Some conservative strategists argue that this move could expose Democrat hypocrisy—they’ve pushed for tax hikes on the wealthy for years. Now, Trump could beat them at their own game while delivering for middle America.
But not everyone’s on board.
High-income donors and fiscal conservatives may resist any hint of a tax increase. Still, the president’s plan is gaining momentum, especially among voters who’ve seen their take-home pay shrink under Democrat policies in recent years.
Urgency Builds as GOP Pushes Tax Package
House Republicans are racing to finalize a legislative package that includes:
- Extending the 2017 Trump tax cuts
- Securing the southern border
- Boosting American energy production
- Raising the national debt ceiling responsibly
The goal? Pass it all by Memorial Day—a timeline that underscores the urgency of protecting American families from what Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent calls an “economic calamity.”
“The Largest Tax Hike in U.S. History” Looms
At his Senate confirmation hearing, Bessent issued a stark warning: Allowing the tax cuts to expire would result in a $4 trillion tax hike—the biggest in American history.
“This is the single most important economic issue of the day,” Bessent said, adding that middle-class Americans would be hit hardest.
Trump’s focus remains clear: protect workers, defend prosperity, and put America First.
👉 What do YOU think? Should wealthy Americans pay more if it means tax-free income for servers and tipped workers?
I think this is a great political strategy. The two thousand seventeen tax cuts only provided a tax break of one point four percent to the one percent so to increase it back to thirty nine point six percent from thirty seven doesn’t seem so bad.. Especially since this will: 1)prove the democrats wrong and 2)provide for his tax on tips, which was promised during campaigning. This would be a win win for the republican party.
EXTEND THE 2017 TAX RATES!! OR NO TAXES ON THOSE MAKING LESS THAN $150,000.00 PER YEAR!!!
