Here’s Trump’s plan.
Republicans in Congress are moving forward with a major healthcare overhaul that would scale back ObamaCare and give Americans a powerful new tool to control their own medical costs. At the center of the plan: a brand-new health savings system named in honor of President Donald Trump.
House GOP Introduces “The More Affordable Care Act”
Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), chairman of the House GOP’s largest caucus, is unveiling legislation called “The More Affordable Care Act.” Pfluger told Fox News Digital the goal is to bring down premiums, expand choice, and take power away from Washington bureaucrats.
Under the proposal, states could opt out of expensive ObamaCare mandates if they adopt alternative protections for high-risk patients. These “waiver states” could also run their own insurance exchanges — or allow private companies to run them — giving families more options than the one-size-fits-all federal marketplace.
Introducing Trump’s New Health Savings Accounts
One of the plan’s most talked-about changes is the creation of “Trump Health Freedom Accounts.”
Instead of funneling billions into insurance companies, the bill would direct those federal dollars straight into personal health savings accounts (HSAs) for eligible Americans.
Families could use these funds to pay for premiums, medical bills, prescriptions, and more — putting healthcare decisions back where they belong: with the patient, not the government.
For older Americans living on tight budgets, this could be a major financial relief.
Buying Insurance Across State Lines — A Long-Awaited Reform
The bill also allows Americans to shop for healthcare plans across state lines, a key conservative reform that has been blocked for years. Supporters say this will increase competition, expand consumer choice, and finally give families the ability to escape overpriced state marketplaces.
Any plan approved in one “waiver state” must be available to consumers in other waiver states, creating a true national marketplace.
Why Republicans Are Moving Now
Millions of Americans — especially seniors — are warning that premiums are rising faster than their Social Security checks.
Much of the coming price spike is tied to temporary COVID-era ObamaCare subsidies that are set to expire at the end of this year.
Most Republicans oppose extending those subsidies again, arguing they hid the true cost of ObamaCare while pushing premiums even higher.
Democrats, however, want to keep the subsidies in place, claiming it’s the only way to keep coverage affordable.
House GOP Preparing a Larger Healthcare Package
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has hinted that the House may vote on a major healthcare package before the end of the month. It is not yet known whether Pfluger’s bill will be included, but the Texas Republican has played a central role in shaping the party’s approach.
A source told Fox News Digital that they expect “significant interest” once the bill is formally introduced.
Pfluger: Time to Take Power Away From Washington
Pfluger said his proposal is about giving families the freedom they deserve:
“Creating Health Freedom Accounts puts control of medical choices where it should have always been — with American families instead of federal bureaucrats. People deserve real solutions, not endless spending on a system that clearly isn’t working.”
Sen. Rick Scott Backs the Companion Legislation
The House bill mirrors legislation previously introduced by Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL). Scott says the plan keeps popular protections — such as coverage for preexisting conditions — while expanding choice and giving financial support directly to families.
Scott explained that there’s no need to scrap ObamaCare entirely. “The exchanges stay, the protections for people with preexisting conditions stay — but we expand the choices available. Families will be able to buy plans across state lines and use Trump Health Freedom Accounts to pick the coverage that fits them best.”
What This Means for Americans 50+
For older Americans facing rising premiums, shrinking networks, and higher deductibles, this proposal could:
✔ Increase real competition
✔ Lower monthly costs
✔ Put federal dollars directly into your health account
✔ Reduce dependence on costly federal plans
✔ Restore control over doctors, treatments, and coverage
If passed, Trump-branded health savings accounts could become one of the most significant changes to American healthcare in more than a decade.
