Here’s what Trump said.

President Donald Trump is once again holding failed liberal leadership accountable—and this time, he’s calling out California Governor Gavin Newsom by name.

During a high-level meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, President Trump took aim at Newsom’s rumored 2028 White House ambitions, saying he’d “love” to see Newsom run—but warned his record of incompetence would “pretty much put him out of the race.”

Newsom’s High-Speed Rail Project: A $106 Billion Boondoggle

Trump zeroed in on California’s high-speed rail fiasco, calling it “the worst cost overrun I’ve ever seen.”

“This little train from San Francisco to Los Angeles was supposed to be simple. Now it’s 30 times over budget. Totally out of control,” Trump said.

Initially priced at $33 billion and scheduled for completion in 2020, the rail line has become a symbol of California’s mismanagement. The price tag has ballooned to $106 billion—with virtually nothing to show for it.

Wildfires, Water Shortages, and Failed Leadership

Trump didn’t stop there. He reminded the public of his efforts to help California during its devastating wildfire seasons—when Governor Newsom stood by and failed to act.

“I sent in people to open up the water. He refused to do it,” Trump said. “If California had done what I told them, those fires could’ve been put out fast.”

Shortly after taking office, President Trump visited fire-ravaged communities, issued an executive order to cut through environmental red tape, and demanded accountability from the City of Los Angeles regarding the use of federal disaster funds.

Trump Takes Action: No More Federal Funding for California’s Failures

Trump also ordered the Interior Department to override burdensome regulations that restricted water delivery to California’s Central Valley—home to thousands of farmers suffering from man-made drought policies.

And now, under Trump’s direction, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is investigating whether California misused federal grants for its high-speed rail. Duffy stated clearly: “If they broke their promises, we’ll give that money to real American infrastructure—not wasteful liberal pet projects.”

Hollywood Bailouts? Trump Says Not So Fast

Governor Newsom recently proposed working with the Trump administration on a $7.5 billion tax credit to boost TV and film production in California. But critics say this is just another handout to Hollywood’s elite—while everyday Americans are ignored.

Newsom posted online: “California built the film industry—we’re ready to bring more jobs home.” But the Trump White House is weighing the full impact of such a move, making clear: no final decision has been made.

“We’re exploring all options to protect American jobs and national security,” a spokesperson said. “We’re ready to Make Hollywood Great Again—on our terms.”

Trump Drops the Hammer: 100% Tariffs on Foreign Films

In a Truth Social post, Trump took bold action: authorizing a 100% tariff on all foreign-produced films entering the U.S.

“It’s time to bring film jobs back to America. No more outsourcing, no more Hollywood sellouts,” Trump wrote.

Bottom Line: Newsom’s Track Record is a Disaster

As the 2028 race draws closer, speculation swirls around Gavin Newsom’s political future. But President Trump made it clear: Newsom’s long list of failures—from wildfires to water mismanagement to that $106 billion train to nowhere—make him unelectable on the national stage.

“He’s done,” Trump said. “That one project alone could end a campaign. But Gavin’s got a lot more disasters under his name.”
