MAGA didn’t expect to see this outcome.
President Donald Trump erupted in outrage this weekend after a federal judge he personally appointed blocked his administration’s plan to deploy the National Guard to Portland, Oregon, where violent unrest and left-wing rioters have torn the city apart.
Trump had announced that troops were ready to move in to restore law and order to what he called a “war-ravaged” American city. But on Saturday, U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut — a Trump appointee — issued a temporary restraining order halting the action, sparking fury from conservatives who say activist judges are now standing in the way of public safety.
Trump Fires Back at His Own Judge
Speaking Sunday before heading to Norfolk, Virginia, for the U.S. Navy’s 250th birthday celebration, Trump blasted the ruling and said it was a betrayal of common sense and public safety.
“Portland was burning to the ground,” Trump said. “It’s antifa, it’s insurrectionists all over the place. And the politicians — they’re scared for their lives. They pretend nothing’s happening, but everyone can see the truth: Portland is on fire.”
When asked about Judge Immergut’s decision, Trump didn’t hold back.
“I wasn’t served well if they’re putting judges like that on the bench,” Trump said. “It’s a shame. Portland is burning and that judge ought to be ashamed.”
Judge Cites Constitutional Technicality
In her opinion, Judge Immergut argued that the state of Oregon and the city of Portland were “likely to succeed” in their claim that the President exceeded his constitutional authority under the Tenth Amendment.
She admitted the violent clashes between rioters and law enforcement were “inexcusable,” but claimed they were not beyond what “regular law enforcement” could handle — a statement critics say ignores the reality of escalating chaos and danger to police and residents.
White House to Appeal the Ruling
The temporary restraining order is set to expire on October 18, but the Trump administration has vowed to appeal, insisting that the President has a duty to defend American cities when local leaders refuse to act.
Supporters of the President say this latest case proves what many conservatives already believe — that unelected judges and weak politicians are undermining law and order for the sake of appeasing the far left.
As one Trump ally put it: “When your own judge stands in the way of protecting American citizens, something is deeply wrong with the system.”
