Here’s what Trump had to say.
President Donald J. Trump has spoken out following the horrifying shooting in Midtown Manhattan that left four people dead — including a heroic NYPD officer — calling the incident “senseless” and the shooter a “crazed lunatic.”
“This was a tragic act of violence in a city I love. I’m confident our brave law enforcement will uncover what led this maniac to do such a horrific thing,” Trump wrote Tuesday morning on Truth Social. The statement was also posted by his press secretary Karoline Leavitt on X, formerly Twitter.
The former president expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, especially honoring Officer Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old NYPD officer, father of two, and immigrant from Bangladesh who died protecting others.
“My heart is with the families of the four victims, especially the NYPD officer who made the ultimate sacrifice. God bless the NYPD, and God bless New York,” Trump said.
The shooting unfolded Monday night at 345 Park Avenue, a high-profile Manhattan office tower that houses companies like Blackstone, the NFL, and Rudin Management.
According to police, the shooter — 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas — entered the lobby with an AR-15-style rifle and opened fire, killing three people. He then went up to the 33rd floor, shot a fourth victim, and took his own life.
A City in Decline?
This latest tragedy highlights the ongoing rise in violent crime plaguing Democrat-run cities like New York — once a beacon of safety under tough-on-crime policies but now suffering under soft-handed leadership.
Despite repeated warnings from conservative lawmakers and police unions, progressive officials continue to downplay rising violence and tie the hands of law enforcement.
Trump: Stand With Our Police
President Trump’s swift and sincere statement stood in sharp contrast to the silence from many Democrat officials.
“The NYPD is the best in the world — and they need support, not defunding,” Trump emphasized. “We must restore law and order to our great cities before more innocent lives are lost.”
Bottom Line:
As the country watches yet another city fall victim to chaos, Trump’s message is clear — it’s time to back the blue, secure our communities, and put America First.
