Interesting to see how these things just happen.

Watchdog Lawsuit Alleges Records Violation in Signal Chat

A liberal government watchdog group, American Oversight, has filed a lawsuit alleging that former Trump administration officials—including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth—discussed military actions in a private Signal app chat, potentially violating the Federal Records Act.

The group claims encrypted conversations about Houthi militant strikes may not have been properly preserved, which would be a breach of federal documentation laws. The chat reportedly included several top Trump-era officials discussing national security matters.

Controversial Case Lands With Judge Known for Halting Trump Policies

The lawsuit has been “randomly” assigned to U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, the very same Obama-appointed judge who previously blocked President Trump’s deportation policies. Conservatives are questioning whether this is truly a coincidence—or yet another case of judicial bias targeting Trump’s legacy.

GOP Lawmakers Call Out Judicial Overreach

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) slammed the assignment, calling Boasberg a “rogue judge” and pointing to his history of nationwide injunctions that have interfered with Trump’s America First agenda.

“These judges are more interested in sabotaging Trump than upholding the law,” Hawley told Fox News Digital, while promoting his bill to curb the power of activist judges.

Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) echoed the concern, calling on Boasberg to recuse himself.

“His bias is obvious. This assignment isn’t random, and if he cares about the integrity of the judiciary, he should step aside,” Issa said.

Trump Officials Named in the Lawsuit

The suit names several Trump-era heavyweights:

  • Pete Hegseth, former Secretary of Defense
  • John Ratcliffe, CIA Director
  • Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence
  • Scott Bessent, Treasury Secretary
  • Marco Rubio, Secretary of State

It also names the National Archives and Records Administration as a defendant, alleging failure to ensure messages were properly archived.

Legal Experts Warn of Judicial Crisis

Former federal prosecutor Andrew Cherkasky warned the assignment could taint the court’s reputation.

“With Boasberg’s radical rulings already under review, this could damage the credibility of the D.C. District Court for generations,” he told Fox News Digital.

Alina Habba Blasts Lawsuit as Political Distraction

Alina Habba, one of President Trump’s former attorneys, also weighed in.

“This is another example of politically motivated legal activism. The courts are being weaponized to distract Americans from President Trump’s strong record on national security,” she said.

White House Denies Classified Info Was Shared in Group Chat

Despite the media framing this as “war planning,” the Biden White House has pushed back. Tulsi Gabbard testified during a House Intelligence hearing that no classified information was shared in the Signal group, and that a reporter was accidentally added to the chat.

“The national security advisor has taken responsibility, and a thorough review is underway,” Gabbard said.

Another Example of Political Lawfare?

This lawsuit comes amid a growing number of legal attacks aimed at President Trump and his allies—often launched by politically aligned activist groups. Many conservatives see it as part of a broader strategy to dismantle Trump’s legacy through the courts, rather than at the ballot box.
