Texas Showdown: GOP Calls in the Feds After Democrat Stunt
A political firestorm is erupting in Texas, and the heat just reached the FBI.
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) has called on Trump’s FBI Director Kash Patel to work with Governor Greg Abbott and state law enforcement to locate and arrest Democrat lawmakers who fled Texas in a desperate attempt to block redistricting legislation.
“This is a serious breach of duty by elected officials who are trying to obstruct the democratic process,” Cornyn declared in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Democrats Flee Texas to Sabotage GOP Agenda
The Democrat exodus began Sunday, when several members of the Texas House of Representatives left the state to break quorum—effectively halting all legislative activity. As of Tuesday, the House still lacked enough members to conduct business.
Cornyn didn’t mince words. “This isn’t democracy. This is dereliction,” he said. “Some lawmakers have reportedly gone as far as New York and Illinois. If Texas authorities can’t reach them, the FBI must step in.”
Attorney General Paxton: “You Don’t Work, You’re Fired”
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a direct warning: runaway lawmakers who fail to return by the House Speaker’s deadline could be legally declared to have vacated their office.
“Texans elected lawmakers—not jet-setting liberals avoiding responsibility,” Paxton wrote. “If you walk off the job, you don’t deserve to keep it.”
Starting Friday, any remaining absentees face legal consequences, as the state prepares to pursue judicial orders holding them accountable for abandoning their posts.
Corruption Questions Surface Over Out-of-State Assistance
Senator Cornyn also raised concerns about possible bribery or public corruption, citing reports of funding and lodging support offered by political allies in other states.
“If these lawmakers accepted money to aid their escape, they may have violated federal and state laws,” he warned.
Shockingly, New York Governor Kathy Hochul admitted in an op-ed that she personally hosted Texas Democrats at the state Capitol and governor’s residence in Albany—calling their actions “legitimate.”
“As John Lewis said, sometimes you have to get into good trouble,” Hochul wrote, defending the political stunt.
GOP Pushes Back Against Partisan Gerrymandering Nationwide
The walkout isn’t just about Texas. Republican leaders see a pattern of Democrat-led gerrymandering in deep-blue states. On Fox News, Governor Abbott told Sean Hannity:
“President Trump won, and now we’re correcting five gerrymandered seats back to red. Other states should follow suit.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) announced legislation to ban states from redrawing congressional maps more than once per decade, except by court order.
“Gavin Newsom is trying to rig California’s elections by abolishing the bipartisan redistricting commission,” Kiley told Fox News Digital. “My bill will put a stop to this corruption.”
The proposed bill would nullify maps adopted after the last federal election and ensure redistricting integrity through 2030.
🔒 Why This Matters to Conservatives
- Accountability: Elected officials must be held to the same standards as working Americans—no show, no paycheck.
- Law & Order: Fleeing a vote is not “activism.” It’s obstruction. And it may be criminal.
- Election Integrity: Gerrymandering has real consequences, especially when it silences the voice of conservative voters.
