Here’s what happened.

Eric Trump is preparing to take legal action against MSNBC and primetime host Jen Psaki after accusing the network of spreading false and damaging claims about his role during President Donald Trump’s recent diplomatic trip to China.

The dispute has quickly become one of the latest flashpoints in the ongoing battle between the Trump family and mainstream media outlets. For many conservatives, the controversy highlights what they view as another example of aggressive reporting aimed at President Trump and those closest to him.

Jen Psaki Raises Questions About Eric Trump’s China Visit

During her Wednesday night program, Psaki questioned why Eric Trump accompanied his father despite not serving in any official government role.

She suggested his presence could raise concerns about conflicts of interest because Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. now help manage the Trump Organization.

Psaki noted that the White House had stated Eric Trump attended strictly in a personal capacity and would not participate in business meetings. She also acknowledged statements that he has no business interests in China.

However, she pointed to a report involving ALT5 Sigma, a fintech company linked to the Trump family’s cryptocurrency venture. The company is reportedly exploring a possible arrangement with a Chinese semiconductor manufacturer while pursuing artificial intelligence data center projects in the United States.

Psaki claimed Eric Trump held a leadership role with the company and implied his presence in China may have involved more than family support.

“It certainly seems like Eric might be getting a little bit more than just quality time with his dad,” she told viewers.

Eric Trump Responds With Legal Threat

Eric Trump strongly denied the allegations and announced that he plans to sue both Psaki and MSNBC.

In a post on X, he said the network broadcast “blatant lies” and insisted he has never served on the board of ALT5 Sigma.

“Any person with access to public records can verify that I have never been on the board of ALT5—not now, not ever,” Trump wrote.

He also stated that he has no investments, real estate, or business dealings in China.

“No properties, no investments, nothing,” he declared.

Eric Trump said he joined the trip solely to support his father during a significant international visit.

“I joined this trip for one reason: as a loving son who adores my father and wanted to be by his side during this historic moment,” he wrote.

He added that he and Lara Trump visited the Great Wall of China while official meetings were taking place.

Psaki Refuses to Back Down

On Friday night, Psaki responded by defending her reporting and presenting additional evidence.

She shared video footage from Eric Trump’s appearance at the Nasdaq market opening, where he was introduced as a company director and fellow board member.

Psaki also referenced a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission showing that Eric Trump had previously been appointed to the company’s board.

She acknowledged that his current role is listed as a board observer rather than a voting director but argued that the position still provides access to meetings and internal discussions.

“To be as fair as possible to Eric, his role at ALT5 has at the very least been complicated,” Psaki said.

She concluded by repeating Eric Trump’s explanation and telling viewers, “I’ll let you be the judge.”

Why This Lawsuit Could Matter

If Eric Trump follows through with the lawsuit, the case could become a major test of media accountability.

Conservatives have long argued that large media organizations often rely on insinuation rather than verified facts when reporting on President Trump and his family. A high-profile legal battle could put those reporting practices under greater scrutiny.

The case may also shed light on how far news organizations can go when raising questions about public figures and their private business dealings.

Growing Frustration With Mainstream Media

For millions of Americans, this latest clash reinforces a familiar concern: that legacy outlets continue to treat the Trump family differently than other political figures.

Whether the dispute ends in court or with a retraction, the confrontation underscores the ongoing struggle between President Trump’s supporters and media institutions they believe have spent years pushing misleading narratives.

One thing is certain: Eric Trump is not backing down, and this legal showdown could become one of the most closely watched media battles of the year.
