President Donald Trump is sending a loud and clear message to America’s major cities: get crime under control — or lose out on big events and big money.

For the second straight day, Trump addressed growing concerns about Boston’s ability to safely host World Cup soccer matches next summer. His warning came after a chaotic mob of more than 100 people recently took over a Boston street and set a police cruiser on fire, shocking residents nationwide.

⚠️ Trump: “We Have the Right to Take It Away”

During a White House press briefing focused on his administration’s nationwide crackdown on violent crime, President Trump was asked whether Boston could lose its hosting privileges for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Somebody asked, ‘Would we think about taking the World Cup away from Boston if they don’t straighten it out?’ The answer is yes,” Trump declared. “We have the right to do that with FIFA.”

Trump added that the same logic could apply to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles if that city continues its decline under progressive leadership.

“If LA turns out to be bad, that applies to the Olympics, too. If a city’s not doing its job, we’ll move those games somewhere safe — simple as that.”

🏙️ Boston’s Mayor Responds — Trump Doubles Down

Boston’s left-wing Mayor Michelle Wu quickly fired back through Fox News Digital, claiming that Boston remains “honored and excited” to host the games and will “welcome fans from around the world.”

Trump wasn’t convinced. He said that while Wu is “radical left,” at least she’s “intelligent” — unlike many others in her political camp.

“The mayor’s not good. She’s radical left, but she’s intelligent,” Trump said. “Some are extremely low IQ — those bother me more. But if Boston’s unsafe, I’ll call Gianni, the head of FIFA, and we’ll move it. He wouldn’t love it, but he’d do it — and easily.”

💰 Billions in Economic Impact at Risk

Boston was originally expected to host seven World Cup matches, including five group-stage games, one Round of 32 fixture, and a major quarterfinal match on July 9 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

Organizers estimate the event could bring in:

  • $1.1 billion in local economic activity
  • Over 5,000 new jobs
  • $60 million in additional tax revenue
  • Two million international visitors flooding into New England

But all that could be lost if safety concerns escalate — or if Trump follows through on his warning.

“This is the perfect time to act,” Trump added. “If I feel conditions aren’t safe, I’ll make that call. We’re not taking chances with American lives.”

FIFA Says It’s Their Call — But Trump Holds the Power

FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani recently told a London audience that “FIFA makes the decisions” on where matches are played.

Still, Trump made clear that when it comes to protecting fans and maintaining order, the United States calls the shots.

“FIFA’s great — Gianni’s phenomenal,” Trump said, “but safety comes first. We won’t hesitate to move games if cities can’t guarantee order.”

🔥 A Long History of Conflict Between Trump and Wu

This isn’t the first time Trump and Mayor Wu have clashed. She’s previously accused the Trump administration of “causing fear” after he warned sanctuary cities could lose federal funding if they refused to cooperate on immigration enforcement.

Wu’s defiance now has consequences that could extend far beyond politics — costing her city billions and damaging its international reputation.

🇺🇸 Law and Order vs. Liberal Chaos

Trump’s comments strike a deeper chord with many Americans who have watched Democrat-led cities spiral into lawlessness. From San Francisco to Chicago, violent crime, drug use, and open defiance of law enforcement have become all too common.

The President’s message is simple: America deserves better. If local leaders won’t protect their citizens, Washington will step in.
